The ceremony will begin with a processional of graduates, faculty, and University officials. The Dean of your College will welcome the audience, give instructions, and recognize outstanding graduates.
You will cross the stage as your name is read from a card that will be provided to you on the day of your ceremony. Professional photographs will be taken. Photo proofs will be emailed to you.
The ceremony will last two hours with an optional hour-long reception immediately following. Refreshments and live music will be provided for you and your guests at the reception.
We want to ensure that your commencement ceremony is a great experience and memory for both you and your guests. For this reason we would like to recommend that you inform your guests that when leaving campus they avoid accessing the 405 Freeway from 7th Street because of traffic congesting. Alternative routes are both Palo Verde Avenue and Bellflower Boulevard, from which both the 405 North and South can be accessed.
Because of the large number of graduates at the largest ceremonies HHS, LA, Arts, and Business, will require tickets for each guest. Each student will receive 8 tickets so that all attendees have a pleasant experience.

How do I know if I’m eligible to graduate?
You must file a Request to Graduate form with the Office of Enrollment Services. If you have filed to graduate for December 2013, January 2014, May 2014, or August 2014, (before the published deadlines), you will be invited to the May 2014 ceremonies and your name will be listed in the program.
Do I need to sign up ahead of time to attend the ceremony?

If you try to submit the form again on the same computer, it will alert you that you have done so already. Please DO NOT call the University asking that your name be checked on the registration list. The data will not be available until the day of your ceremony.

How many tickets do I get and how do I pick them up?
Graduates from HHS, LA, Arts, and Business, will receive 8 tickets so that all attendees have a pleasant experience. Commencement tickets are complimentary and will be first distributed at Cap and Gown Distribution at the Bookstore: Monday, 5/5/14 until Thursday, 5/8/14 from 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM. If you are unable to attend during this time, you can pick up your tickets until the day before your ceremony at the Bookstore. Even if you are not picking up a cap and gown for your ceremony, you can receive your guest tickets from the Bookstore. You must present either your CSULB ID card or picture ID, along with your student ID number, to obtain tickets. A friend or family member may pick up your tickets if he/she shows your identification card, if you are unable to come during Bookstore hours.
If you do not pick up your tickets by the times mentioned above, we cannot guarantee you will receive your full number of commencement tickets.
No additional tickets will be provided and it is recommended that you ask classmates if you can have their unused tickets. No tickets will be required for the live streaming rooms on campus and extra guests are encouraged to sit in these lecture halls. Please note, CSULB does not authorize the sale of complimentary tickets.
For ceremonies on Friday, May 23, we ask that each student limit the number of guests to 8 or under so that all attendees have a pleasant experience. No tickets will be required for Engineering, Natural Science & Mathematics, and Education ceremonies.
First-come, first-served seating is available for your guests in folding chairs and grandstands.

Diplomas are not distributed at Commencement. The diplomas themselves are issued by the University after verification has been made that all degree requirements have been completed and after the diploma document is specially inscribed for the graduate.
Your diploma will not automatically be mailed to you. The Office of Enrollment Services (562/985-5471) will send an e-mail when your diploma is available (approximately 4-8 weeks after your degree has been granted).

The CSULB Alumni Association volunteers will be selling beautiful mixed bouquets and orchid leis at graduation. You can help support the Alumni Association's programs by purchasing flowers at the alumni tent in the central quad.
Strict adherence to a non-alcohol policy for this event will be enforced. Graduates and their guests shall not be permitted to carry onto the premises or consume alcoholic beverages during any part of the Commencement ceremonies.
Once the ceremony begins graduates and guests are asked to turn off their cell phones until the conclusion of the ceremony.
