Congratulations on your great achievement! We want to ensure that your commencement ceremony is a great experience and memory for both you and your guests. For this reason we would like to recommend that you inform your guests that when leaving campus they avoid accessing the 405 Freeway from 7th Street because of construction. Alternative routes are both Palo Verde Avenue and Bellflower Boulevard, from which both the 405 North and South can be accessed.
Because of the large number of graduates at the ceremonies, we ask that each student limit the number of guests to 10 or under so that all attendees may have a pleasant experience.
The processional, directed by faculty marshals, marches over an outdoor route in the central quad which will maximize the visibility of candidates and faculty in their multicolored hoods and gowns.
Music for the processional and recessional will be played by the University Brass Ensemble.
A typical Ceremony will begin with the Dean of the College welcoming the audience, giving instructions, and recognizing outstanding graduates.
Candidates for degrees will be recognized individually by being called to the platform. Each name will be read from a card which the candidate will have filled out while lining up for the processional, and each will cross the platform.
Photographs will be taken and the candidate will be directed back to his/her seat by the faculty marshals.
Candidates will rise as directed and remain standing while the President confers the degrees.
After the President confers the degrees, the Grand Marshal will lead the recessional of graduates and dignitaries from the Commencement site to the reception.
