Barbara C. LeMaster, (Ph.D., University of California, Los Angeles 1990; Assistant Professor) Barbara LeMaster's interests include language, gender, deaf sign languages, language socialization, education, and medical anthropology. Her area interests include Ireland and the United States. Recently, she has conducted research on acquisition of gendered communication in West Long Beach schools; she has been a consultant and interpreter in greater Los Angeles area and a consultant in Ireland. She is often called on as a consultant to local hospitals regarding language and culture brokerage. She has served as an advisor to the University of California, to the National Association of Deaf People in Ireland, and as a visiting professor at Trinity College, Dublin. With Pamela Bunte, she is active in the Master's Program in Anthropological Linguistics. |
