Many of the buildings on campus are controlled with electronic temperature control systems. These building require special attention for control of their comfort systems and energy management systems. This task is performed by the Facility Control Specialists. They are able to monitor and control building comfort systems from the Energy Office located in Facilities Management.
Facilities Management Engineering and Electrical Services employs a staff trained in every principal; trade required for facilities maintenance, repair, alteration and construction. In addition, the staff can respond to urgent or specialized needs and provide continuity for basic maintenance and repair programs. Requests for routine or chargeback services may be made by calling our Customer Service Center at extension 5-4357 (5-HELP) or by submitting a Service Order Form.
Facilities Management also has an asbestos abatement team which is specially trained and certified to perform small asbestos removal projects within compliance of applicable regulations. Departments and building occupants are notified by memo when asbestos abatement will occur within their facility.
To Schedule HVAC Equipment
Most heating and air conditioning equipment must be scheduled to run on a specific time and day. This is accomplished through programming into one of many campus energy management systems (EMS). Most of the equipment schedules are based on a weekly room occupancy list provided to Facilities Management by Academic Events Scheduling.
Customers may submit in writing, any equipment scheduling request, directly to the Customer Service Center, provided the event has already been approved and cleared through the appropriate channels. Life Safety Fire Detection Systems
Most buildings on campus are equipped with fire detection systems that generate an audible and visual warning when activated manually via a pull station or automatically by a smoke detector. Most fire detection systems are monitored 24 hours a day and will report to Public Safety when activated or when system trouble is diagnosed through an internal self-test routine.
- Preventative maintenance of Heating and Cooling (HVAC) systems
- Repairs/minor installations of refrigeration and temperature controls
- Operate and maintain Central Plant heating and cooling equipment and heating/chilled water distribution system
- Maintain elevators and wheel chair lifts
- Maintain building power system, interior and outdoor lighting
- Installation and repair of electrical fixtures, wiring and backup power
- Maintain the campus electrical mains and distribution system
- Maintenance and testing of fire alarm systems
- Maintain, install and repair plumbing fixtures and backflow devices
- Maintenance of water, sewer and natural gas utility system
- Maintain and testing of fire sprinkler systems
- Management of utility services, energy and water efficiency, utility metering and renewable power systems
