Fall 2019 passes on sale starting Aug. 9, 2019
CSULB has partnered with LA Metro to provide students with a highly-discounted transit option when traveling to campus from Los Angeles County areas. CSULB students commuting long distances to campus can avoid driving to campus and reduce their carbon emissions with this option. transition seamlessly from outlying LA County areas directly to campus or via LB Transit.
How to Purchase
The fall 2019 Metro U-Pass may be purchased at the Cashiers Office on the 1st floor of Brotman Hall starting Aug. 9, 2019. Those who have participated in this program in the past have the option to purchase on the parking portal.
Please bring the following items to purchase your LA Metro U-Pass:
- $150 (cash, check, or debit)
- CSULB Student ID card
Proof of completing the Los Angeles Metro Disclaimer/Waiver form
$150 for 19 Weeks
Aug. 19, 2019-Jan. 19, 2020
- Unlimited rides on all Metro buses and light rail lines for only $150
- This fall 2019, U-Pass will also include LADOT Dash, Culver CityBus Transit, Torrance Transit, Norwalk Transit, Big Blue Bus, and Pasadena Transit with the possibility of adding Foothill Transit, the Glendale B Line, and Burbank buses later in the semester. Negotiations still in progress for the latter routes.
- Purchasing the pass via CSULB eliminates the 4-6 week application process with LA Metro and lowers the minimum credit requirement.
Terms and Conditions
The Metro U-Pass services will load onto your current Long Beach Transit TAP sticker. If you do not already have a TAP sticker, there will be a $5 fee for the initial cost of the sticker. Passes are not sold on a prorated basis after the effective time period has begun.
A Los Angeles Metro Disclaimer/Waiver form must be completed in order to purchase a Metro U-Pass. The completed waiver form must be printed or displayed on a smartphone for validation at the Cashiers Office. The completed waiver form and CSULB ID card are required in order to purchase a Metro U-Pass. The U-Pass will be active as soon as it is purchased and may be used by tapping the ID card onto the reader when boarding the chosen Metro service.
Ridership levels will be reviewed each semester. Prices for U-Pass permits are determined by ridership levels and are subject to change from semester to semester.
CSULB faculty and staff who are interested in Long Beach Transit, LA Metro or OCTA have alternative options through employee transit programs.

IMPORTANT NOTE: LA Metro U-Pass sales are nonrefundable. Any changes in enrollment status will require the TAP sticker to be exchanged at the Cashiers Office for an LA Metro TAP card in order to continue uninterrupted Metro services for the remainder of the pre-paid service period.
BLUE LINE CONSTRUCTION: Large-scale construction is scheduled for the Metro Blue Line from now until Sept. 20, 2019. Please check the LA Metro website for the most updated route and detour information.
