CSULB has partnered with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority to provide students with a discounted transit option when traveling to campus from the greater Los Angeles area. The LA Metro Pass provides CSULB students/staff with unlimited rides on all LA Metro buses and light rail lines (Red, Orange, Blue, Expo, etc.) for a highly-discounted price (based on ridership).
Individuals commuting long distances can now avoid driving to campus and further reduce their carbon footprint with this pass option. Individuals commuting via LA Metro bus or light rail can also seamlessly transition to the CSULB campus direct from LA Metro buses or via a short connection through the Long Beach Transit bus system.
How to Purchase
The Spring 2020 Metro U-Pass may be purchased at the Cashiers Office on the 1st floor of Brotman Hall starting Jan. 7, 2020. Those who have participated in this program before have the option of purchasing their passes via the online parking portal.
Please bring the following items to purchase your LA Metro U-Pass:
- $125 (cash, check, or debit card)
- CSULB ID card
Proof of completing the Los Angeles Metro Disclaimer/Waiver form
$125 for 19 Weeks (Spring Semester 2020)
Jan. 20, 2020 - May. 31, 2020
- Unlimited rides on all Metro buses and light rail lines (Red, Orange, Blue, Expo, etc.) for only $125
- This Spring 2020, U-Pass will also include LADOT Dash, Culver CityBus Transit, Torrance Transit, Norwalk Transit, Big Blue Bus, Gardena, and Pasadena Transit with the possibility of adding Foothill Transit, the Glendale B Line, and Burbank buses later in the semester. Negotiations still in progress for the latter routes.
- Purchasing the pass via CSULB eliminates the 4-6 week application process with LA Metro and lowers the minimum credit requirement.
Terms and Conditions
The Metro Pass services will load onto your current Long Beach Transit TAP sticker. If you do not already have a TAP sticker, there will be a $5 fee for the initial cost of the sticker. Passes are not sold on a prorated basis after the effective time period has begun.
A Los Angeles Metro Disclaimer/Waiver form must be completed in order to purchase a Metro Pass. The completed waiver form must be printed or displayed on a smartphone for validation at the Cashiers Office. The completed waiver form and CSULB ID card are required in order to purchase a Metro Pass. The Pass will be active as soon as it is purchased and may be used by tapping the ID card onto the reader when boarding the chosen Metro service.
Ridership levels will be reviewed each semester. Prices for Pass permits are determined by ridership levels and are subject to change from semester to semester.

IMPORTANT NOTE: LA Metro Pass sales are nonrefundable. Any changes in enrollment status will require the TAP sticker to be exchanged at the Cashiers Office for an LA Metro TAP card in order to continue uninterrupted Metro services for the remainder of the pre-paid service period.
