Anthony Minghella was one of those rare breed of directors who favored quality over quantity, releasing few films–but gaining high critical praise for each effort. Minghella's projects have included: Truly Madly Deeply, The English Patient, for which he won an Oscar, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Cold Mountain, and Breaking and Entering. A renowned writer and accomplished musician, he received the Laurence Olivier Award, presented annually by the Society of London Theater, for his production of Puccini's Madama Butterfly. Anthony Minghella passed away in March of 2008.
WIDE ANGLE: An Insider's View on the Art of Filmmaking was a benefit for the UAM's education and exhibition programs including the art + technology initiative incorporating film, new media, music and popular culture. This initiatie seeks to offer new and established artists an unparalleled opportunity for working at the frontiers of art, science, and technology, where new art forms are born and new expressive media are invented.
