Burned Out by the Rising Sun: works by Anna Von Mertens
February 1- April 8, 2007

Anna Von Mertens was born in 1973 in Boston, Massachusetts. She received her BA from Brown University in 1995 and her MFA in 2000 from the California College of the Arts. In 2001 she received the Affiliate Artist Award at the Headlands Center for the Arts in Sausalito, CA; and in 2002 was awarded a New Hampshire Fellowship as an Artist in Residence at the prestigious MacDowell Colony. Von Mertens’ work has been shown in exhibitions at Jack Hanley Gallery, San Franacisco; University Art Museum, University of California, Santa Barbara; Berkeley Art Museum, Berkeley, CA; Gallery Paule Anglim, San Francisco, CA; Sara Meltzer Gallery, New York; White Box, New York; Pasadena Museum of California Art, Pasadena, CA; and Center for Curatorial Studies Museum, Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York; Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, among others. Her work has been is such publications as Artweek, Los Angeles Times, Fiberarts, Flash Art, New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Surface Design Journal, and The Independent. Von Mertens currently teaches at UC Berkeley and California College of the Arts.
