Maya Schindler: Present Progressive
Coinciding with the US elections in November, Maya Schindler presents a new site-specific installation for the center court with one of her quintessential works I Have a Dream (2005/8) reconfigured for the UAM in its first presentation in the U.S. Relating to patriotism and exploring ironies, juxtaposing apathy and activism specifically in these works, Schindler explores the boundaries of language, meaning and symbols - sculpturally.
Maya Schindler is a Los Angeles-based artist originally from Jerusalem, Israel. She received her MFA from Yale University and her BFA from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, and attended the CORE program in Houston. Recent solo exhibitions include The Miller Gallery at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburg, THE NEW DEAL at Anna Helwing Gallery, Los Angeles, and In Confidence at South First in Brooklyn.
