Sally Gall (American, b. 1955)

Sally Gall was born in Washington DC in 1955. She received her B.F.A.  from the Rhode Island School of Design and has been working as a photographer for over 25 years. Her work is in major museum collections including the Guggenheim Museum, New York; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris. Gall has earned several prestigious awards including the Moonhole Residency from the Englehard; a fellowship from the MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, NH; and a Cultural Arts Council of Houston Grant. Her ethereal photographs capture the juxtaposition of light and dark, ambiguity and certainty, isolation and intimacy. These extremes are united by the inimitability of Gall's technique. She does not just capture her subject; she endows it with a temperament of its own.
