Engineering Futures @ CSULB - March 24, 2006
The California Theta Chapter will be hosting the first Engineering Futures session on Friday, March 24. It will be held from 10AM-2PM in Health & Human Services Building 1, Room 200 (HHS1-200) close to the P.E. Building. All engineering students are invited to participate. The topic will be "People Skills" and is divided into two sessions. Please read on for more information about Engineering Futures and a description of what we'll be doing on March 24.
What is Engineering Futures?
The Tau Beta Pi Engineering Futures Program was established to provide interpersonal skills for engineering students. This is accomplished through the presentation of sessions on campus by alumnus Tau Bates who are trained in the materials.
What will we be doing at Engineering Futures?
The focus of this Engineering Futures event is People Skills (one-on-one problem solving). The seminar will be broken down into two sessions: Describing Problems and Motivation Problems. Lunch will be provided between the sessions.
- PS1 - Describing Problems:
- Learn how to describe problems in a direct, specific, and non-punishing manner and start problem solving that gets the problem solved and maintains relationships with others.
- PS2 - Motivation Problems:
- Learn how to motivate people through the use of consequences, both natural (consequences which happen without effort on their part) and imposed (where someone needs to take an action to make the consequence happen). Also learn how to set up and follow plans once a solution is agreed upon to help ensure that the problem is permanently solved.
Do we have to pay or be a TBP member to participate?
No, it is a free seminar for all engineering students of CSULB. We encourage you to come and even invite your friends to join.
