SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR NOMINATIONS FOR 2005-06 COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD

Nominations are being requested for the 2005-2006 Community Service Award. There are four awards per year — one each to a CSULB student, faculty, staff, and alumnus/a.

Description and Purpose: These awards are designed to recognize and encourage service by members of the CSULB family to the community within which they live. The awards are sponsored by Academic Senate, the Staff Council, the Alumni Association, and the Associated Students.

Criteria: A wide range of service activities are eligible, including political, religious, and social activism. In all cases, sustained involvement and especially significant results will be considered. Special attention will be given to noteworthy accomplishments within the past 12 months. Preference will be given to unpaid volunteer service which is not part of one's normal and expected occupational duties. Those eligible include CSULB student, faculty, staff, and alumni (to include all former students and friends of the University). Self-nominations are encouraged. Awardees may reapply five years after receiving an award.

Nominations and Selection Process: The following materials must be submitted.

  • A nomination form
  • A narrative summary describing the service
  • A resume or CV that includes a listing of the service activities (optional)
  • Up to 3 letters of recommendation or support (at least one is required)

Nominations will be judged by committee selected by sponsoring group; deliberations of the committees are confidential.
