Announcements

  1. Correction from Staff Council Minutes on September 12, 2008 – Campus Climate Committee, Kathy Engberg’s nomination is void. There was a miscommunication from Academic Affairs regarding the number of spaces available.
  2. Long Beach Marathon – staff cheer team needed.
  3. Academic Senate Retreat – Staff Council participating in poster contest.
  4. Sharon Olson – 7 days of service coming up. This is annual event.
  5. Food drive is being organized by the Learning Alliance department.
  6. Sharon Olson – Gave a presentation to Charleen Rice. Charleen received a Long Beach State Lamp engraved with her name.
  7. Staff Supper Club – Boat cruise will be held Thursday October 30th from 5:30 – 7:30 pm please contact Rachel Brophy. Dr. Mike Walker will host the tour along w/Port of Long Beach personnel. Total: 125 people. FREE. Parking approximately $8.
  8. Next week is the last week for open enrolment health benefits.
  9. Aaron – ASI – announced an awareness event 10/15/08 that presidential debate. UPass – staff and students ride Long Beach Transit free.

Committee Reports

  1. Membership – Lori Glum is continuing as a member. Susana Hernandez is a new staff member of Facilities just visiting.
  2. Special Events – (Colleen) – Spooktaculor approaching and the deadline to enter your dept. in the contest is October 24, 2008. Please contact Laura Stone Cherishing Children Holiday event approaching. This holiday event is for children 3months – 16 years old. Boxes will be up November 3rd thru the first week in December.
  3. Ways and Means – 50/50 raffle tickets for spooktaculor available for sale now. Looking for volunteers.
  4. Bylaws – Sharon Olson.
  5. Nominating Committee - PCSW – working on Colloquium for November.

More Announcements

  1. Sabarro’s not open. Probably a different vendor for Lunch-n-Learn.
  2. Passport office on campus. Is now open.

Special Orders

  1. Time Certain: President Alexander - 9:01am
    Wall Street hit again. News outside campus. Hall of Science groundbreaking. Two-thirds of students have classes there. Wellness Center opening in January. Brooks College takeover on 12/31.There will be 550 new places for students to live. Jan. budget potential for us to get cut is real. Student loans OK unless privately funded. Raised about 12 million dollars this year. Marathon coming through campus on Sunday. Blues Festival at Rainbow Lagoon went well. Lights going up on Bellflower and Palo Verde.
  2. Time Certain: Sgt. Scott Brown - 9:23 am Sgt.
    Earthquake preparedness. Duck and cover. For people with disabilities check with disabled student services. Please use Museum Putty to secure items on shelves. Even if the phone sounds dead try to call long distance. Takes about 5 days to get to you. Have on handy MRE – meals rejected by everyone.
    Golden Guardian in November simulates 7.6 earthquake. Long Beach Certification Program at fire training facility in Argonne. FEMA website –emergency preparedness. Bleach and ammonia close together can kill you. You can contact Sgt. Brown at x51192 or email sebrown@csulb.edu
