Announcements
- Marlys Sams - Homecoming November 22nd and the 1st men's basketball game. Tailgate is from 12noon -3:30pm. The game starts at 4:05pm CSULB vs. Weber State. Purchase tickets in advance for buffet.
- Amy Raza - RAD is scheduled for October 6, 2008. RAD will be held four Mondays in October from 4-7pm. To register email arzasa@csulb.edu. RAD stands for Rape Aggression Defense. The cost is $10 dollars for faculty, staff, and students. If you have graduated RAD there is no charge. To receive a certificate your attendance is mandatory for the 3rd and 4th training day.
- Charleen Rice - On campus Electric Hair offers manicures and pedicures. Wells Fargo Bank is open. Sabarro's Pizza is opening soon.
Committee Reports
- Membership - new members Laura Stone - Library, Regina Cash - UCES, Heidi Berry - UCES, Mel Mandri - Ocean Studies. We are currently 42 people short on membership.
- Special Events - Colleen. October Spooktacular will be held on Halloween. There will be a costume contest for individuals and groups. There will also be an office decoration contest. The event will be held from Noon-1pm at the Speakers Platform. Contact Laura Stone at x54503 or lstone@csulb.edu. Judging will be held in the morning.
- Staff Development - Nancy Green. Good ideas coming soon. Tour of the University Student Union for 20 people scheduled for Wednesday, October 22nd with lunch from Sabarro's Pizza.
- Treasurer Report - Over $6,000 in account. Budget approved for 08/09.
- Ways and Means - Charleen is working on getting more members for this committee and help for Charles Greenwood who is chairing the committee.
- Nominating Committee - Zeke Bonilla.
- Chair of Staff Council - Barbara Sinclair nominated and accepted. Unanimous ballot approved.
- Member-at-Large - Zeke Bonilla nominated and accepted. Unanimous ballot approved.
- Chair of Nominating Committee - Kathy Allen nominated and accepted. Unanimous ballot approved.
- Academic Senate. International Education Committee - Sharon Olson nominated and accepted. Unanimous ballot approved.
- University Resource Council - Charleen Rice nominated. Unanimous ballot approved.
- Faculty Advisory Committee on Technology. Andrea Martin nominated. Unanimous ballot approved.
- Campus Climate Committee - Kathy Engberg nominated. Unanimous ballot approved.
Special Orders
- Time Certain: President Alexander - 9:05am
- Congratulations to Barbara Sinclair for her recent election as Staff Council Chair. Also congratulated Charleen Rice on a job well done for 3 years.
- As of 9/11/08 we have 36,870 students we should end with approximately 37,500. Graduation rate increased from 45.6% to nearly 54% in one year. This is the highest graduation rate in the history of CSULB.
- Projects on campus. The tennis courts are finished. New parking structure will provide about 1,000 new parking spots and should be open by the second semester. October 3, 2008 will be the ground breaking ceremony near Peterson building. The Outpost is scheduled to open by the end of October 1st.
- The State budget is the same as 6 months ago. Republicans passed the budget and the Democrats turned it down. The difference is about 9 million dollars in cuts. Based on the May revise. This is the longest CA has gone without a budget.
- Parking - the campus parking lots fill up by 9:20am and open up about 2:30pm. More staff is using buses.
- Thank you for move in day. It took one day and went smoothly. There were over 300 visitors to the Japanese garden.
- Cameras are up and running on campus. The goal is campus safety and to keep people away that don't belong here. The cameras are located in a white box on lampposts and various locations on campus. There is a person monitoring the cameras at all times.
- Time Certain: Robert Quirk - Director of Facilities Management - 9:30 am
- Solar panels have been installed at Brotman Hall. The majority of electric vehicles on campus are charged with solar power. The VEC building will have solar panels on the roof in about 4 months.
- Water conservation.50% reclaimed water used on campus. About 40 hands free faucets and automatic hand dryers will be installed throughout campus. There is currently one automatic hand dryer in the university student union. Seventy percent of waste on campus has been recycled. Check webpage for integrated waste management for more information.
- CSULB has a fleet of 300 vehicles under 50 fueled by gas others alternate fuel.
- October 12, 2008 will be the Long Beach Marathon which will come through campus. Please try not to schedule any events prior to 1pm.
More Announcements
- John from benefits announced the Health Fair will be held Thursday, October 2nd from 10:30am- 1:30pm on the 3rd floor in Brotman Hall. Open Enrollment period for any changes is 9/15 - 10/17 effective January 1, 2009.
- Constitution Day is September 17th in PSY 150 from 5:30pm - 6:45 pm. Craig Smith will be the guest speaker.
- Charleen Rice gave a special presentation to Robert Quirk for supporting her throughout her term as Chair and to the Executive Committee members of last year as thanks to them for their hard work and support as well. A presentation for each was a handmade glass plate with the University seal on it.
