- Time Certain 8:45 a.m.— Selection of Staff Representatives to Search Committees for Vice President, Administration and Finance (Bill Griffith), and Associate Vice President, Financial Management (Joe Latter)
Zeke Bonilla, Nominating Committee, held an election for the staff representative to the Search Committee for Vice President, Administration and Finance (Bill Griffith). Don Penrod, 49er Shops Inc., was selected.
- Time Certain 9:00 a.m.— Ted Kadowaki, Associate Vice President, Budget Management — CSULB Budget Update
- He proposed 2007-08 state budget calls for approximately $12 billion for higher education, including about $3 billion for the CSU System. CSULB’s budget would be about $200 billion from the state and $100 million from student fees. The Governor proposes to fully fund the third of five years of the state’s Higher Education Compact. The budget would include $2 million for additional math and science teacher training and FTE student growth of 2.5 percent.
- However, the State Legislative Analyst’s Office projects a deficit of about $726 million for fiscal 2007-08. Kadowaki said that much can happen during the budget cycle. The “May Revise” is published after state taxes due in April are accounted for. Thus far, the CSU budget outlook is positive.
- Time Certain 9:30 a.m.— Selection of Staff Representatives to Campus Climate Committee and University Resources Council
Zeke Bonilla continued election of the staff representatives to several groups:

- University Resources Council — Nelson Horn was selected.
- Time Certain 9:45 a.m.— President F. King Alexander
- He continued the budget discussion. He noted that lower-cost institutions like the CSU are at a comparative disadvantage with respect to federal student support.
- Student success is important. One current issue is the ratio of 60 percent female to 40 percent male enrollment. The bulk of high school dropouts are males. Women’s grade point averages tend to be higher overall.
- Other issues of importance are providing opportunities for low-income students, and overall access and success.
- CSULB’s graduation rates are improving. “Everybody on this campus plays a vital role in student success,” he said.
