Club MembershipAll CSULB students, alumni, faculty, staff and their spouses are eligible to become club members. Membership dues are payable three times a year for the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters. Dues rates are on a sliding scale depending on which class of boat one is rated for and one's status with the University.
Skipper RatingsA skipper rating, given by the association, entitles a member access to a particular class of boat when that boat is not scheduled or obligated to any other organized function. There are no per-use fees in addition to one's dues. Members may earn their skipper ratings either by taking the association's lessons or by proving themselves competent sailors by the skilled performance of the drills listed on the skipper check-out guide. Each rating has its own privileges and restrictions. All skippers are expected to participate in one of the association's committee's and assist with activities. How to joinThe CSULBSA launches each semester with a "New Members Welcome Barbecue" (check our calendar for the next scheduled event). This is when current members pay their dues, sign-ups for lessons take place, and new members may come see what the club is all about. All are welcome to participate; no sailing experience is necessary. The association's general meetings are typically held twice a semester. The meetings and most other activities take place at the historic Leeway Sailing Center on Alamitos Bay, 5437 East Ocean Blvd. |
