First Annual Long Beach Fall Classic
Sunday, November 16, 2008 - Marine Stadium
Long Beach State didn't give up the fight by local rivals UCSB & UCI this weekend during Beach Crew's First Annual Long Beach Fall Classic Regatta. The 5000 meter course consisted of a run down Marine Stadium and once around Naples Island.
It was a beautiful sunny morning in Long Beach with no wind and flat water. The men's novice team celebrated their victory with a head race time of 16:01, followed by UCI A (17:11), UCI B (19:20), & UCI C (19:21). The Beach fell behind 18.08.36 to UCI at 17.07.23 in the Women's Varsity 8+ event. The Beach conquered three out of five sprints in the Women's Novice 8+ event to UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine on a modified course. UC Santa Barbara celebrated the other two heats.
CSULB hopes to continue and expand this autumn rowing event to other collegiate teams in the years to come.
Beach Crew would like to thank members of the Long Beach Rowing Association (LBRA) for assisting with the race course. |
