Introducing your 2009-2010 Team

We are incredibly proud of everyone who tried out for Team this year! Many of the scores put up by first-time shooters this year were among the best we've ever seen during try outs. We're not sure what contributed to this improvement but we'll say it's our outstanding training staff coupled with the raw talent that's on the shooting line!

Competition was tough and so was the selection process but the top shooters in each category have been chosen. To see our Team for the 2009-2010 season, check out the Team page.

If you're not among those chosen to be on the Team there's absolutely no reason to feel discouraged. Your progress through the past several weeks has been phenomenal and we will continue working with you to get you to the gold. Nothing changes from this point on - this is still your Club and it is up to you to make the most of it!

See you at practice!

Stepping up your archery game

Practice has been progressing at a wonderful pace. We're seeing a good number of regular attendees, everyone's starting to get to know one another, and the center of our targets are getting a pretty good beating. With all the fun, however, comes the necessary committment to take it to the next level. Our Coaching section now has several documents that will help you get there. The flexibility, fitness, and strengthening guides are rich sources of information for both new and returning Club members and will help you be more efficient shooters. We'll also work on putting up guides discussing the mental approach towards archery, which is just as important as physical fitness.

Remember that Team tryouts will be October 15 and 16 during regular meeting times. Whether you're confident in your shooting abilities or not, we really encourage you to try out. Afterall, there's no extra participation cost and it's a wonderful opportunity to experience what an archery competition is like.

During this next month, please ask questions and consult one of our instructors or coaches. A simple question such as 'How am I doing?' will go a long way.

Have fun and good luck!

Club shows good grouping!

Thanks to an exhaustive promoting effort - spearheaded by Hannah Motegi - turnout at practice this semester has been incredible! Events like SOAR, Week of Welcome, and Smorgasport were wonderful opportunities for the Club to reach out and connect with students and piqued the interest of many. The result is a record-breaking turnout for the Club and an amazing pool of talent that the Team can draw from.

In spite of the heat, attendance has been steady and we hope to keep this going. Although shooting a bow is a reward in itself, we are constantly looking for ways to give back to Club members. As a member, in what ways would you feel more connected to the Club? Are there Club events, on or off the shooting range, you'd like to see happen? Let us know!

If you still haven't come our practices but are interested, we really encourage you to come by and try it out. There's no cost to try it out and you're guaranteed to have a good time. It's still not too late to join! Check out our Calendar and come out when you can.

See you on the shooting line!

Preaching to the choir
Head Coach Mike Burnham

In addition to the many awards garnered by our team from the 2009 West Regional Championships, our head coach, Mike Burnham, finally received the recognition he deserves - West Region Coach of the Year! Receiving this distinction wasn't a surprise to us but why he hadn't received it sooner stumped us for quite some time. Coach Mike's shooting technique, teaching style, and rapport with those around him are without equal, in our humble opinion. These qualities are evident upon first meeting him, but he has an additional quality that makes him more compelling as our friend and coach.
