Campus Progressive Meeting - Notes 10/29/03, Jaime
Sorry comrades, for the latest notes of the semester. but without further delay I give you the notes for the wed 10/29 meeting.
In attendance we had Connie, Jeb, Jamie, Damian, Elisa, Dustin, Michelle, Carlos, Dr. Ruyle, and myself, Jaime. We also had some real supportive alumni: Jim, Nina, and Sean-thanks
for coming.
We began with an update for our guest. Have not organized and event, yet. working on video showing, not much more
HSA is working on bringing Dennis Kucinich, a potential presidential candidate for 2004,
to the campus. Our support is welcomed.
UFCW strike. we planned and successfully conducted a visit in support of the UFCW workers for Sunday afternoon on Nov. 2 at twelve noon. We made signs and joined the
picketers at the Albertsons on PCH and 2nd.
Nina one of the alumni briefly spoke about Unionizing TA in the CSU system. the movement is slowly forming with 400 signatures in San Diego campus, it needs undergraduate
support. She also said to be on the look out for a so called Brian who is visiting campuses initiating organization.
Jim another alumni gave a speech on turn out problems in the campus progressives. He encouraged us to become better organized by communicating more, keeping a calender,
phone banking, crating a database to assist us in recording members and contact info. Also become more organized w/ other active groups on campus.
Dr. Ruyle presented us w/ info and asked for endorsement of California Peace Action's call for a " New foreign Policy: on Nov. 8th. We agreed to look over the website and vote on
the issue on Wed, Nov. 5th. Visit the sight so we can vote on Wednesday. The address is www.californiapeaceaction.org/index.htm.
We decided to create a new event and flier committees. I am the only one presently on the event committee. jeb and Elisa are in the flier committee.
I will be contacting members before the committee and discussing attendance, agenda items (so we can have an agenda before the meeting), so have some ideas ready.
