"Old Items"
March 18th: Iraq: One Year Later
We have all the clearance, all the equipment, all the chairs. Concentrate on flyering and inviting friends to join the event. Posters can be made up in the Maxson Center. Starts tomorrow at 12noon.
March 20th: Protest in LA
Most everyone in the room who is attending will already be travelling with a group, but if you need to carpool, e-mail Jaime. Long Beach people can meet up at the Northwest corner of Hollywood and Vine, or look for the Long Beach Area Peace Network banner.
March 29th: Film Screening: Uncovered: The Whole Truth About the Iraq War
Confirmation from Event Planning. Flyers were posted to the list. Available at www.csulb.edu/org/csulbcp/Uncovered.pdf. Again, focus now is on getting people to come. Talk with your professors about extra credit opportunities.
"New Business"
May 1st / May Day and Earth Day:
Mike suggested organizing another speaker or protest event for May Day. Jaime and Elisa pointed out that May Day also marks the "end" of the War according to Bush, so we could tie in that theme as well. We all discussed possibilities for an -ahem- "art exhibit" on campus. Come to the meeting for more information. Al also suggested we could plan something for Earth Day, April 22nd.
Establishing Headquarters
Connie is going to look into obtaining a room or reclaiming a spot in the Multicultural Room in the Student Union (could we be any more multicultural??). Zahra is going to work on reserving a cubicle in the Maxson Center.
California Faculty Association
Holding a meeting this Friday, 19th at 5:00 in FO4-180 to discuss budget cuts, the status of EOP, and other programs affected by the slashes in state funding for education. They are planning a rally for April 26th. More information to come.
Discrimination in Engineering
Uduak filled us in on the continuing saga of racism and discrimination in the engineering programs. Though the administration attempted to sweep the issue under the rug, there is now a federal investigation involving the U.S. Department of Education. We need to make sure this gets the attention it deserves from the school newspapers and even off-campus media. Stay aware of discrimination within your own departments, classes, and everywhere else.
