Campus Progressives Collective meeting minutes

1. CPC Constitution and bylaws - to meeting-attending "Collective participants," please expect another e-mail containing official CPC Constitution and bylaws. we need order and structure, people!!... and a new draft of the Constitution.

2. ASI - TO ALL STUDENTS who will be here for next academic semester, please consider running for Academic Senate. Progressive student population on campus WANTS YOU to run for Senator for all Colleges outside of College of Liberal Arts. For instance, two vacant senate seats for College of the Arts open for next semester. Also, open are positions of Senators at-large, who are elected to represent no one college but entire student body and whose responsibility is less that of College Senators, who attend their College meetings.

APPLICATIONS DUE THIS FRIDAY!!!!!!!!! Please contact Elisa, Senator for the College of Education, at eherrer2@csulb.edu ASAP. Uncle Sam hates you, so please apply to run for Senate!

P.S. Sean announced he will be running for ASI President.

3. Film Festival for March and April, so far - a collaboration with the Chican@ Latin@ Studies Student Association (CHiLeS), i think; joint flyer in production process; confirmed films and dates: Mar 1st - Aristide and the Endless Revolution , Mar 2nd - The Panama Deception; CPC film fest committee formed including Jasmine, Naomi, Jeb, Elisa, Xochitl, and Lamya; should we screen rough recording of Feb 13th "What is Puvungna?" presentation by Dwight Manuel?; possible screenings of Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price and Loose Change again? 4. Darfur Action League - Movie Night with slide show and presentation by Gabriel Stauring of Stop Genocide Now and discussion to be held Wednesday Feb 22nd at 6pm in Multicultural Ctr; next Darfur Action League meeting next Tuesday, Feb 28th 3p in Newport Room, USU 221. 5. Puvungna - should we screen recording of "What is Puvungna?" during campus film festival? On Mar 8th, there will be a Senate vote on two separate resolutions, one authored by Elisa Hererra, Senator for the College of Ed. and co-sponsored by Naomi Cruz, Senator for College of Liberal Arts, which encourages permanent protection of the Puvungna sacred land on campus; the other written by ASI President Hiro Okahana, which encourages discussion about development/preservation of Puvungna grounds while the university would commit to clean-up and maintaining the grounds.

6. CPC Communication - promoting three tools: 1) announcements e-mail list-serv - now for on-campus progressive events, off-campus events organized by CPC, and nationwide solidarity events like rallies/protests only; 2) free discussion e-mail list-serv - an e-mail forum for all other progressive topics/events and other inter-/intra-group communication - to subscribe to this, visit http://www.csulb.edu/org/progressives/com.html; 3) free (not moderated) discussion forum (no bulk e-mail) Freewebs website - link to which could soon be found on main CPC website at http://www.csulb.edu/org/progressives/index.html. next meeting - election of 2 new announcements list moderators.

7. Recall Arnie event brought to you by the CPC - Dr. Kenneth Matsumara, founder of Recall Arnie Campaign, speaking on lawn before CSULB Bookstore near Multi Cultural Ctr (FO3-03) tomorrow, Friday, Feb 24 at 12p. Learn of Arnie's disastrous administration and bad news of looming high probability of re-election. Daddy, no!!!! 8. The World Can't Wait/Drive out the Bush Regime! - presentation by Tony Vargas, youth and student organizer from WCW Campaign brought to our meeting by James; viewed 10 min DVD of news footage on WCW protest actions during and against Bush's State of the Union address in Los Angeles, followed by Q&A portion after official meeting end. 9. CPC pot luck BBQ Social event - a Campus Progressives Collective social on Sunday, Feb 26, 2006 at 12pm at El Dorado Park, West 2800 Studebaker Rd. (562) 570-3225. a potluck so bring some thing yummy to share with the group. there will be carne asada and vegetarian/vegan options. bring something to grill, like your Republican friends, or peaches and vegetables, and a picnic blanket in case tables could not be reserved.
