Campus Progressive Meeting - Notes 30 August 2006, Xochitl

So nine of the progressives met on wed august 30 at 12:30. here are the conclusions

1. the clubs official name is now Campus Progressives

2. we decided we want to be more about action, than about resource - so our meetings will not be so much about an agenda and talking points, but they will actually be more about planning (demonstrations, for example) ACTION. our goal will be to create changes not just discuss and/or educate ourselves. we will discuss type of action during meetings.

3. the movements we wanted to focus on varied and we decided to only concentrate on a couple. yes there are A LOT of changes that need to be done and in different venues but if we want to make something count we really need to stay focus and be persistent with the same constant issues (at least for the semester). so here are the issues we came up with
anti-sweatshop - on campus
immigration
anti-war
death penalty
animal cruelty - vegan places to eat on campus
countering military recruitmet - on campus
voting
china - human rights issues
globalization
solar panels
we will be narrowing these down to like two or three. but we are still open to other suggestions!

4. we will be participating in week of welcome. we did get a table!

so if you would like to offer any other issues please email them to the discussion list serve. we will decide on the couple that we will focus on, on our first official meeting which will be Monday September 11 3.30pm USU 303.
