1. Darfur Action League - (1) There will be a rally/demonstration Apr 30th in San Francisco surrounding the push for state implemented divestment. Good news: CalSTRS has divested. (2) Camp Darfur happened Apr 7th. Peter was able to make it and reports that it was positive and powerful. He proposes to bring Camp Darfur to our campus before the end of this semester while not being opposed to hosting it in Fall. The Campus Progressives will endorse any Darfur action. Contact Peter at stopgenocidenow@hotmail.com

2. "Patriot Inaction" - a reception and lecture with Robbie Conal, political artist, activist and guerrilla wheat paster man. See him speak Thursday, Apr 20th, in UT-108, Unversity Theater. 6p for reception. 7p for lecture.

3. Why Denim? - April 19th is Denim Day. Our observance of this day by wearing jeans marks our protest against the 1999 Italian Supreme Court overruling of a rape charge case in which an 18-year old woman was allegedly raped by a 45-year old man. Because the victim was wearing "tight" blue jeans at the time of her rape, the judge decided the accused rapist could not have removed her pants effectively to rape her without her helping/allowing him or with her struggling, because we all slip into our jeans when we're in a hurry with the help of another person, and because some women's dress warrants men raping.

4. We need to decide a new meeting time - A call for suggestions/schedules will be sent out to main announcements list. This is the chance for anyone to help decide a time that will allow for their attendance and increased involvment with the group. We want you, we need you.

5. The Progressives' Film Fest - and the beat goes on... (1) Next film: Thurs 4/20 "Our Synthetic Sea" 4:30p in LA5-167; We support this Environmental Science & Policy Club event. (2) Wed 4/26 " Birdsong & Coffee: A Wake Up Call" 6p at Multicultural Ctr, FO3-02. A belated Earth Day engagement with special speaker Professor Scott Crass on starting fair trade actions on campus. We want you for this too, unless you like/are addicted to the 'proudly served' Starbucks coffee. (3) Thurs 5/4 " Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price" 6p at MCC, FO3-02. contact xhernand@csulb.edu

6. "Evening of Human Rights Awareness" by Muslim Student Association, taking place May 3rd, 5-7p at the Southwest Terrace, will feature Mark Gonzalez, a hip hop theatre playwright, HBO Def Poet, performance lecturer, and founder of the Human Writes Project. Topic emphasis on the struggle of the indigenous peoples of Palestine. The Campus Progressives will do a fundraiser to help MSA--they need buxxx. contact Sanna at (310) 920-1784 or s_zaheen@hotmail.com.

7. Reclaim Democracy - the event to learn about this campaign was moved from Apr 25th to May 4th. Presentation with a speaker from Reclaim Democracy to discuss 'reclaiming democracy' over corporations whose personhood rights are wrongfully expanding. Come to learn the legal history of and how to stop corporate takeover. Don't think corporatization is bad? We want to hear from you, so come! Promoting for this event will begin next week. Your help/suggestions would be appreciated. Also suggested: visit Sage Francis' www.nomore.org for 'report cards' on the ethics of different corporations, who to boycott . Contact Sean B. at beachbong@aol.com (and urge him to cancel his account with AOL!)

8. T-shirts - we might make t-shirts to help raise funds for the MSA Human Rights Awareness thing, and we want to get to making t-shirts for progressives for general purposes too. if you want to have a part in this (designing, planning, choosing, wearing), please send msg to discussion list. if you're not on that list, info on how to subscribe below.

9. The Great American Boycott is happening May 1st - don't buy NOT A THING! Sumiko is "spear-heading" the events planning for that day. The Progressives will join La Raza and hopefully other groups to do something to bring attention to HR4437. We also discussed how the Anti-HR4437 movement has become Latin@ focused when a third of Koreans (in CA?) are undocumented. HR4437 is a multi-group issue. Divide and conquer?
