Other Stuff:
6. Meeting time for next semester

9. Ideas for major events next semester

1. Film Screening: Testimony: Maria Guardado – Tuesday, April 19
Tuesday, April 19th at 5:00pm in the Karl Anatol Center *confirmed
Testimony: The Maria Guardado Story, with discussion afterward with special guests Maria Guardado and Director Randy Vasquez.
Elisa, Allison, and Lamya have been posting flyers and spreading the word. Allison has confirmed a translator will be there for the after-film discussion. Thanks to Sean for contacting us and putting up with all the delays as we worked out the details. Make sure you come – we want to give Maria a great welcome.

2. Nugget Fundraiser – Thursday, April 28
Thursday, April 28th at 7:00pm in the Nugget *confirmation expected next week
Nick and Elisa expect official approval from SLD next week. Jose will design flyers and can get 1000 cardstock quality flyers printed for $30-$35. Nick is still accepting donations for raffle prizes, so bring them to the next meeting. Mike M. suggested event name: “Counterculture: A Funkfest” Some of the poets who will perform at the fundraiser will be at our next meeting, so make sure to come.

3. Campus Unity Outdoor Shindig – Monday and Tuesday, May 2 & 3
Monday, May 2 & Tuesday, May 3 at 10am-2pm in the Quad Area or Friendship Walk *tentative
Mike M. and Nick are working on this event to get student organizations across campus communicating with each other and cooperating on events/issues. Kind of like our Student Organization Coalition/United Student Activists but outdoors in a bright, sunny atmosphere rather than a meeting room. More to come.

4. Film Screening: The Enemy – Wednesday, May 4
Wednesday, May 4 at 6:00pm in the Multicultural Center *confirmed
Members of Anakbayan asked for our assistance in screening a film, The Enemy, and hosting an event regarding human rights, elections, and other issues in the Philippines and throughout the world. Elisa will contact Cindy from the Multicultural Center as a venue. Update: Reservation confirmed! Cindy also let us know that the conference room has a tv/dvd player. If we want to show it on a larger, drop down screen, we’ll have to get a projector elsewhere. I think that will be much better than a tv, but we can discuss further at the next meeting.

5. Film Screening: What the Bleep Do We Know? – Thursday, May 12
Thursday, May 12 at 5:00pm in the Beach Auditorium *confirmed
Yet another film screening. Elisa to reserve facilities through SLD. Union facilities management are cracking down and unless we provide our own screen, -- get this -- Event Planning will charge us $33 just to have someone lower the screen! (They say we need a “building assistant,” who costs $11/hour with a minimum charge of 3 hours – it takes 15 seconds to lower the screen--hello????) Update: On Monday, I went to the Board of Control and got $33 plus $15 for publicity. We definitely need to go to them for money in the future!

6. Meeting time for next semester
For the past who-knows-how-long, we have been meeting on Wednesdays at 5:00pm. If we want to reserve an official meeting room through SLD, we need to turn in an application. Alternative meeting times will be considered: let us know what works for you. We’ll take some suggestions and then vote on it a few weeks from now. Also, somewhat related, Elisa will fill our application for space in the Maxson Center.

7. Building Sandcastles, fun!
ASI and “the Beachteam” (I have no idea…) are hosting a luau on Tuesday, May 3 from 11:30-12:30. They’re having a sandcastle-building contest and the winning org gets $100. If you have any special sand sculpturing skills, let me know. Glad to know ASI is hard at work, huh?

8. Keeping in contact over the break
Jose and Nick (I think) spoke about all of us getting together over the summer to keep in touch, talk about possible events for the fall, and just chill. Maybe a barbeque or somethin’. We can find out exactly how many of our members are vegetarians.

9. Events next semester
Open to ideas. Think big! Think changing the school. Think changing the community. Think changing the world.

Some people have been slinging a lot of sh… um, “mud” full throttle at members of the Progressives. Take it as a good sign: it shows their fear and how desperate they are to repress the ever-growing movement. This has been an incredible semester for the Progressives so far, and we’re getting stronger and more influential with every week!
