HISTORY
For the records:
- This club originated as the "Students for Nader" during the 2000 Presidential election. Once the election ended, we decided the club should continue, but grow into a broader-based organization for social and political awareness and activism, in the tradition of past progressive CSULB organizations such as Students for Peace and Justice, the Progressive Caucus, and the Peter Carr Peace Center.
- Some examples of events we have attended:
- Ralph Nader Super Rally
- Inaugural Protest of George the "Thief"
- Lecture by the authors of "It's the Media, Stupid," Bob McChesney and John Nichols at the Midnight Special Bookstore (1318 Third St. Promenade in Santa Monica)
- The Pacifica Crisis: Dissident Voices from Inside and Out (Fri, 3-23-01)
- Events/actions that we have organized/sponsored:
- A teach-in ("What's Wrong with Plan Colombia?") and march against Plan Colombia during the Fall 2001 semester
- We got the CSULB administration to join the WRC, following the pattern of many other campuses.
- "Globalizing Humanity : A Conference to Further the Movement of Social Justice and Peace": Here's a descriptive flier.
The rest of the events attended and sponsored are noted in the minutes of the club's meetings.
