Campus Progressives Meeting
3/5/02

Campus Progressives Meeting
Wednesday, April 9th

Attending: Shawn, Zahra, Uduak, Julie, Michelle, Bjorn, Sheila, Nina, Yehuda,
Neil, Mike, Emily, Ray, Marc, Jeb, Bo

1) Uduak is putting together a youth collective to be aired on KPFK. Young people
that are conscious of social and political issues are simply not represented in
mainstream media. "It's not just MTV kids," he says. It's time we let our voices
be heard and this is just the outlet to make that happen. Our first step is to
create a mission statement. Everyone who is interested (so far there are lots of
people interested) contact Uduak by emailing him at uduakjoe@hotmail.com Let's do
this!!!

2) Recently an Arab American CSULB student was pulled out of class, driven to his
house (the police drove his car), and interrogated without reason. There have
been 3 other incidents just like this one at our school. Right now the INS and
the FBI are trying to control us. This is courtesy of the Patriot Act which the
administration is trying to make permanent. Under this act, incidents such as
these and unjust detainment for no reason will continue to happen. It's time we
raise awareness of the Patriot Act and our rights as citizens and human beings.

3) Several members have stated the fact that harping over the war in Iraq is not
doing any good. What we need to start doing now is think realistically and
address the consequences of war. How (in any way) is the U.S. better off after
this war? What has the war accomplished? These are the questions that need to be
addressed. We're thinking about setting up a debate and/or a panel of speakers to
educate the campus community about these issues.

4) It's time to set up a coalition of organizations that take a stand against war.
We're not talking about simply the war on Iraq. Fact is, the imperialistic war
will not end here. What we need to do now is organize events not solely by the
Campus Progressives, but a coalition of various organizations to increase the
numbers. The Young Socialist Alliance has agreed to join forces. Other potential
organizations are La Raza, African Student Union, MSA, SSA, etc. Please contact
any other organization you are affiliated with and/or know and let them know about
this.

5) The REACH Center, an anarchist bookstore is closing down and they will be
selling radical books and other literature for very cheap. Mark the day on your
calendar, Saturday, April 26th. That night there will also be a party. Sheila
has more information upon request.

Enjoy spring break and keep the struggle alive!

-Shawn
