Campus Progressives Meeting
3/5/02

Attending: Uduak, Nina, Bjorn, Sheila, Jeb, Jayme, Ryan, Zarah, Ed, Andrew, Jeff,
and I am SO sorry I am bad at names and can't remember a couple people!

1. Ed Ober (host of The Beach Factor on KBeach) is running for VP at school and he
has asked the Collective to sponsor his candidacy. He spoke for a few minutes on
his views and you can view his "platform" and his ideas on www.edober.com and next
meeting we will discuss a decision regarding his request for sponsorship. The
elections will be held on April 1st. (haha! April fools day!)

We are asking any candidates for office to appear at our next meeting if they wish
to have our individual or collective support. Nina is writing a letter to post at
the ASI office asking candidates to come to our next meeting, and noting that we
have heard from Ed already.

2. The Anti-War Concert at the Nugget on March 20 from 5-10pm has confirmed the
following bands: Bullet Train to Vegas, The Kite Eating Tree (with former members
of Sundays Best), The Pop Narcotic, The Prisoners Dilemma, and Stoic Frame. We are
still looking for spoken word artists, so if you know of any (please ask them if
they are available on the date before poroposing their participation in the show
to the club) please come to our next meeting and let us know.

3. Also on March 20, from 12-2pm (campus location TBA) there will be 2 students
from Cuba speaking from the Cuban Youth Tour. This event is brought to CSULB by
the Committee for US-Cuban Academic Exchange and we have agreed to SPONSOR the
event. (non-monetarily, as we have no funds, but in solidarity).

4. There is an event in the works for April 10 including a daytime debate event
about the war and a nighttime hip-hop show at the Nugget. This will be discussed
more in meetings to come.

5. A 4 page proposal on the structure of the CSULB Campus PRogressives Collective
Structure was passed out and emailed to the list today. The proposal will be
discussed and decided upon NEXT MEETING, so come prepared (having read the
proposal in its entirety) and voice your opinions. The current structure is
nonexistant and this is long overdue, so we hope to get everything discussed next
meeting.

6. The Southern CA ACLU is planning to meet with students to organize an
information spreading group on campus. Stay tuned for more info on this in weeks
to come.

7. The UNION newspaper features a comic on the inside front page characaturizing a
"friendly neighborhood campus progressive" possibly meant to be Uduak... Jeb is
hoping to feature a similar comic of a "college republican" in next week's UNION.
Keep an eye out!

8. REMINDER-- we are TABLING next monday and tuesday near LA5. Please see last
weeks meeting notes if you forgot what time you signed up for and please stop by
if you can. Also there is a list of times in the office (USU 309) on the desk.
Thanks to Dr. Gene Ruyle for providing a table!

Hope to see you all next Wednesday at 5pm in USU 309!

-Sheila-
