Campus Progressives Meeting
2/12/02



Meeting started at 5:02pm

Attendance: Jeb, Sheila, John, Connie, Uduak, Carl, Gene, Hasan, Dana,
Shawn, Danny, Andy and Ralph

Agenda:

Danny:
1) ASI has 3 openings for the position of associate justices, forms can be
picked up in the ASI office.
2) ASI Election Applications for 2003-2004 positions are no open for
submission and the deadline is Feb. 22nd.

Uduak:
1) Announced that the Young Republicans will be holding a "Pro-American /
Pro-Bush" Rally on the CSULB campus on Tuesday, Feb 18 at 12 noon.  They
will be having David Horowitz as their main speaker on the southwest
terrace in front of the Boor's Head Eatery.
- Jeb will submit a negative Horowitz PR article in the 49er on Monday
- Sheila will be in charge of getting posters
- Need someone to do silent statement during his lecture
- agreed that we should not interfere with their speaking so that we  can
speak when we want to
- Students are asked to write letters to editor against this rally and
speaker
- Ed said that if someone can record the audio he can use it for sound
bites on his radio show
- Everyone is encouraged to go and oppose this rally
- We agreed that our statement on this would be, "We oppose War mongering
and racism on our campus".

Hasan:
1) Anti-War Resolution was proposed to ASI by Senator Jorge Reyes of the
College of Liberal Arts
- La Raza, ASU and the Pacific islanders have already Approved it
- Vote will be next wednesday at 3:30pm at the ASI senate meeting

2) Discussion on Resolution
- Concern on what open ended ness of "Resist the war" meant
- Is it really tied to our tuition?

Sheila:
1) Anti-War Concert
- Tentatively scheduled for April 10, 2003 (Thursday) in the CSULB Nugget
from 6-10pm
- Possibly pass out flyers and raise money for the organization
- Still need to confirm bands
- Possible bands: Jeb's Band, Carl knows one, Sheila (Over the Counter
Intelligence), Shawn (Prisoners Dilemma) and Gene (Buck Tradition)
- Ralph said that he would be in charge of logistics

Gene:
1) Emergency Plans in Case that War Occurs
- LBAPN: Will hold a community meeting at the Washington Mutual on 2nd St
at 5pm the day the bombing starts or the the following day at 5pm if the
bombing starts in the middle of the night.
- Peter Carr Peace Center: Will Hold a meeting and peace vigil at the
Multicultural center at 12 noon the following day that the invasion begins
and bombs start killing people.
- A.N.S.W.E.R.: Asks everyone to not go to work or school the day
following first bombing and to join any protests in your local area against
the war.
- Wear black arm bands on your arm as sign of mourning for innocent
civilians

2) This Saturday there will be a demonstration in downtown long beach to
give the city council a resolution opposing the war followed by an Anti-War
Rally at City Hall. It starts at 12 noon and will go into the afternoon,
all are encourage to attend, expect 200+ people to be there.

Ralph:
1) Would like to bring "Bowling for Columbine" movie by michael moore on
campus

Dana:
1) San Gabriel River Clean-up on April 27, 2003 can sign up at ASI
2) Enviro Fair: Battle of the Bands & Environmentally friendly cars on
campus for Earth Day on April 22-23, more information as we get closer to
the date.

Ed:
1) Wants to start discussing CP's position on issues and ways that we can
add or change things on campus
2) would like a collective agreement statement for Cp's
3) Would like a list of things we want to achieve on campus
- Discussion: Anti-War, K-Beach all over campus, Bike Station, and
Newsletter
