Campus Progressives Meeting
3/20/02
- NEW MEETING TIME! Every WEDNESDAY at about 12:30 - 1:30 PM in USU-309 (which also happens to be our messy little office...)
- Facilitator: Bjorn
Notes: Connie
- Globalization Conference:
- Full funding has been approved (we actually have extra money ~$600), speakers have been confirmed, the press/media are being contacted, we have a flyer designed and will make 500 copies to distribute, everything will be finalized with SLD office by this Friday, Mar.22.
- csulbglobaljustice@hotmail.com is the email contact for more info.
- KPFK 90.7fm will be present to film/record the conference for their library and the Conference will be announced on KPFK on the Lawyers' Guild Show with Jim Lafferty! (Thanks to community activist Sharon Cotrell)
- Press releases, the workshop list, a schedule of events, and flyers are all available in our office, USU-309. Please come and pick them up if you need them.
- SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THIS CONFERENCE! To classmates, professors, everyone.
- Outreach for This Group:
- We should have an event with Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine before the semester is over, and before he has other musical endeavors to address. This would draw more publicity for this group, and have more student involvement.
- PLEASE, everyone should come to the office and make/take flyers and post them around school to let everyone know we are still here! Also, we should continue tabling. We should be sure to table before "The Conference".
- Student Government Elections:
Vote for Oron Maher for ASI (Associated Students) President! (Because Nina said so...and because Oron is a nice guy and will help us out!) Elections will be held April 8-10 around campus. (www.oronmaher.com)
- National Student / Labor Day of Action:
The AFL-CIO asked Jim to help, and so Emily is heading this next event up. This teach-in will feature a labor organizer from the local truckers' union, and hopefully another speaker. The event is tentatively slated for Thurs. Apr.4, the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's death. Dr.King addressed economic injustice at the end of his life, and to acknowledge these issues would be helping to keep 'his dream' alive. An exhibit called "the Museum of Intolerance" will also be apart of this event, to be held at the Free Speech Forum, in front of the 49er Bookstore.
