Campus Progressives Meeting

- Next meeting will be Wed. 3/13 at 12 PM.
- This Saturday there'll be a meeting to organize details of the Globalization conference at (12 Noon or 2 PM) at Nina's house.
- National Student Labor Day (April 4th):
The Progressives consensed today to put on an event on labor at the free speech platform. Suggested speakers/guests/topics include truckers from the LA truckers group, who are currently trying to organize a union, the California Faculty Association, the Museum of Intolerence (mideast issues), and Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (he was assassinated on April 4th, 1968, and near the end of his life started linking racial oppression with its labor and class counterparts). Also cultural groups from campus would be invited to speak.
- Taco Bell Protest:
On Monday starting at Santa Ana Memorial Park at 10:30 AM, there will be a march to Taco Bell headquarters. To volunteer to be a peacekeeper contact dawnwhite4justice@hotmail.com. Communication equipment and artists are also needed for this event.
- Meeting Time:
We consensed today to change the meeting time back to 12 PM. If others that were not there to vote could e-mail the group to say if they perfer 12 or 1 PM, that would be great.
- Another Debate:
We also discussed having a debate with the ROTC on campus. This would be in late April.
- Events:
- This Sunday, the Rise Up Conference at UCLA beginning at 9 AM with 25 workshops will take place.
- Also on Sunday: another demonstration against Forever 21 at 4:30 PM at 3rd Street promenade.
- Benefit shows at the Long Beach info shop will be on 3/9, 3/16, and 3/23. All will start at 8 PM and will cost $4-5.
- May 17-19 there will be a union organizing conference put on by the AFL CIO. Anyone who is interested must fill out an application. Visit www.organize.aflcio.org.
- Howard Zinn will be speaking in Newport Beach on April 19th for $18. More info will come later.
- Long Beach Food Not Bombs meets Sundays at Noon at (the place formerly known as) A-Occasions and serves food at about 3 PM.
