Time - Björn
- Our next meeting is RESCHEDULED for MONDAY October 15th at Noon in USU room 309 due to the CFA teach-in on Wednesday the 17th in the University Theater. Go to the teach-in and support the faculty union in their struggle for justice! There will be speakers, food, refreshments, and dialogue between faculty and students about learning and teaching conditions in the CSU System. This teach-in is designed to show the administration that the faculty union is serious about their concerns and dedicated to action. CFA is the California Faculty Association and the Teach-in is from 10am to 5pm and 6pm to 9pm in the University Theater (near the Library). The Campus Progressives collective is an official sponsor of the CFA teach-in along with hundreds of campus and community organizations, unions, and individuals.
- We're starting a discussion group to talk about politics, books, and ideas in a revolutionary context. It would be a voluntary weekly meeting and an opportunity for memebers to gain more knowledge as a group and to have actual dialogue about various issues in politics in a casual setting. Our first meeting will be FRIDAY OCTOBER 19th at 2pm in USU room 309 [our office] so be there!
- We want to start a newsletter(!) for distribution on campus, to include political and social commentary, music, art and book reviews, opinions, fiction, etc. Our next meeting (Monday) will deal with this in more depth.
- The 49er newspaper will be running an article next week on the Sweatshop issue. Sweatshops are a product of global imperialism and corporate goals of profit at all costs. CSULB clothing includes sweatshop made items and the Campus Progressives Collective actively pursues the elimination of these items from our bookstore by advocating the joining of the CSU System to the Workers' Rights Consortium, an organization that researches and investigates labor and product issues and prevents sweatshop production from being utilized by companies selling clothing on campuses. We hope to run an opinion piece after the 49er article. More info at next meeting(s). Contact Jim for more info.
- Our e-mail list is up and running! (e-mail list?) Also, there are 2 computers in our office in USU room 309 with the internet that are available for general use by memebers and friends.
- Go to the Anti-War Student Coalition's first general meeting THURSDAY October 18th at Noon in USU room 303: to discuss mobilizing students for an anti-war movement in response to the reaction of the current administration to September 11th's terrorist action.
- We need more flyers for the Campus Progressives Collective! Stop by USU room 309 if you are interested in helping design or distribute flyers for our general meetings and upcoming events.
