Campus Progressives Meeting
8/29/01
- We discussed the Palestinian Struggle for Justice Conference [rorconference.com] that we are sponsoring on campus in October.
- An information table is to be set up next week on Monday and Tuesday, 9 AM to 4 PM. (September 10 and 11)
- We talked about demonstrating against sweatshop clothing being sold in the CSULB bookstore in two weeks.
- The campus police have been ripping down our flyers. We
visited them and they told us we needed a required stamp. After this we went
to the Student Life and Development (SLD) office and they told us we do NOT need this stamp and the director of SLD explained
to the campus police that clubs on campus do not need stamped flyers and they
can't be removed by the police. Hopefully it will stop now.
(So anyone who has flyers can post them WITHOUT stamps.)
- Gene Ruyle informed us of a teach-in on October 17th to support the faculty union, etc.
- A revolutionary book sharing and discussion group to be started! Sheila is organizing it and will bring more news of this new club soon.
- Living Wage tour... nikewages.com (Anti-sweatshop movement speakers may be booked on campus.)
- Events:
- Columbian embassy protest. (2-3 weeks from now)
- Teach-in on October 17th to support faculty union, etc.
- The Student Coalition to Free Mumia Abu-Jamal will now have it's first meeting on Wednesday (September 5) at 3pm-4pm in the Multicultural Center.
