*** Endless E-mails! - important!
This has been an ongoing thing with our e-mail list and recently, a friendly person named "Freddy Fabulous" reminded us of the issue. For the sake of those who do not want their inboxes flooded with off-campus event notices and discussions, the e-mail is going to switch to a moderated format. Only messages containing meeting notes, information on progressive on-campus events, or selected off-campus events (e.g. global days of protest) will be allowed on the main progressives list. Any other messages will NOT be deleted, but they will be forwarded to our already-existing unmoderated progressives-discussion list. If you are not yet subscribed, you can join the discussion list by sending an e-mail to progressives-discussion-subscribe@lists.riseup.net To those of you who send out discussion topics or off-campus announcements, we're not mad at you! Keep on sending stuff to the discussion list!

1. Announcements - Islamic Awareness Week
Next week, the Muslim Students Association is hosting Islamic Awareness Week with the following events:
Tuesday, 5-7:00pm in the Sunset Lounge (Northeast corner area on the second floor of the Student Union): Sonali Kolhatkar (from KPFK/Pacifica Radio) speaks on Afghanistan
Wednesday evening (time and location TBA): A discussion of Chechnya - why is it so easily overlooked and forgotten?
Thursday, 5:00pm in USU-303: Students visiting from the Gaza Strip talk about Palestinian struggles
For more info, contact Zahra

2. Hip hop event in the Nugget
Thursday, April 28th at 8pm - The Nugget
With three groups from the Funk Collective, four DJs, and breakdancing. Also performances from CSULB's Slam Poets.
We're going to hold raffles to raise money. Suggested prizes include CDs or DVDs. Nick and Jeb are going to look into finding some international music CDs and documentary DVDs. If you have anything you'd like to donate to be raffled, Nick will be collecting prizes at our meetings over the next few weeks. Also, I found out today that the Nugget has a 299-person capacity.

3. Film Showing - "What the Bleep Do We Know?"
In cooperation with the new Kundalini/ campus unity club pioneered by Nick Towle and Mike Molina:
Date depends on the availability of the Beach Auditorium - more to come. "What the Bleep Do We Know?" is part documentary, part story, and part elaborate and inspiring visual effects and animations that reveals the uncertain world of the quantum field hidden behind what we consider to be our normal, waking reality.
Visit http://www.whatthebleep.com/ for more information and to see where I plagiarized the description from.

4. Film Showing - "Testimony: The Maria Guardado Story"
Tuesday, April 19th at 5:00-8:00pm in the Karl Anatol Center (first floor Library East)
Salvadoran political refugee and poet, Maria Guardado, now living in Los Angeles, returns to her homeland and recalls her experiences with repression, death squads, Archbishop Oscar Romero, and her continuing work as a human rights activist in Los Angeles.
Discussion to follow, joined by MARIA GUARDADO and director RANDY VASQUEZ
**Thanks to Dr. Dennis Kortheuer of the History Department - without his assistance, this event would not be possible.
WE NEED A SPANISH TRANSLATOR FOR DISCUSSION AFTERWARD, so if you know anyone with the skills, have them contact me!

5. Limited Film Showing - "Dry in the Mouth"
Wednesday, April 20th at 5:00pm in the History Dept. Conference Room (FO2-101A)
One of our very own Progressives, Yehuda Maayan, wrote, produced, and directed a documentary-style fictional film about Israel-Palestine. We will be screening the film at our April 20th meeting. Remember, the April 20th meeting will be in FO2-101A, NOT our usual USU-303.

6. CSULB Unite
Tuesday, May 3rd and Wednesday, May 4th - afternoon
Mike M. and Nick are organizing a new group to establish cohesive unity between cultural clubs on campus. This way we can collaborate and cooperate on issues and events we organize and have a clear communication network among student groups. On May 3rd & 4th, they will be hosting an outdoor event in the LA5 quad area with music, tables, and interactive activities with other student groups.

That's all!
