The sorority's oldest Philanthropy is the Maine Sea Coast Mission, adapted in 1918, to commemorate the founding at Colby College in Waterville, Main. Inherit the Earth is another one of Sigma Kappa's philanthropies which ties Sigma Kappa's interest in older citizens with its interest in the environment. Through Inherit the Earth, collegians, alumnae and older citizens work together to improve local environments.

In 1954, the sorority took on the Philanthropy of Gerontology and Geriatrics. The highly important field has gained recognition each year, and is one in which Sigma Kappa has pioneered. Recognition of the sorority's work has included representation at the White House Conference on Aging. Each College and Alumni chapter has a local Gerontology or Geriatrics project of their choice and many outstanding ones have received local and regional recognition. At Sigma Kappa's 1984 Convention, Alzheimer's Disease research and education was adopted as part of their Gerontology Philanthropy.
