Shantal Sandoval DOB: July 14,1980 Major: Spanish Translation & Interpretation Ethnicity: Mexican-American |
I grew up in San Mateo a suburb of the San Francisco bay area and moved to sunny southern in the summer of 1999 to attend, California State University Long Beach. I chose this campus because they had the best dance program in the state. My original plan was to be a dance major and pursue a career in the arts but I shortly found out that the dance program was not going to be for me after only being enrolled for a semester. After my first semester, I realized that dance was no longer going to be the path that I was going to follow. My passion and drive for dance did not die, but life does a 360 once you get to college. Although, this was a very difficult decision I felt it was for the best. Shortly after I declared Spanish as my new major and have been diligently working to attain a BA in order to translate and interpret in the courts. I hope to graduate in the spring of 2003 “Si dios quiere…”
My family has played a big role in my success with all their support that they have shown me. I am the oldest of three children; I feel that being the oldest has had a lot to do with the molding of my character. I have been raised in a semi-traditional Mexican household since both my parents are Mexican and they find it extremely important to maintain our culture in order to appreciate all the good things life has to offer.
I am very energetic and an out going person and just going to class was not going to give me the college experience that I was looking for. I explored the options the “Beach” had to offer and realized that pledging for Lambda Theta Alpha was going to be a wonderful opportunity for me to become active and involved on campus as well as in the community. I believed the sorority would provide the support I needed to get through college. As a first generation college student, such support was essential. In Fall 2000 I became a proud sister of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. along with 4 other astounding young ladies. I thank Lambda Theta Alpha for the wonderful sisterhood and opportunity for growth it has provided me with. It has been a wonderful as well as fulfilling experience to be part of such a splendid organization that, I treasure dear to my heart.
I am very fun loving type of person. I enjoy life and all it has to offer. I enjoy traveling and talking to new people. Traveling and meeting new people give me the opportunity to learn from the world around me. In my spare time I like to engage in out door activities and dancing. I have never been able to sit still. I love to be around people I can share a good laugh with. My favorite number is 3 (I wonder why?)
