My name is Rosanna Perez and I was born in Whittier, California on July 15, 1981 to Alfred and Christina Perez. My father, who graduated from California State University, Fullerton works hard as a Human Resource Director, while my mom, who returned to school as an adult, works as a Medical Transcriber. My parents have always tried there hardest to give my older sister, Sylvia, and I the best things in life. Both my sister and I attended Catholic elementary school and I was fortunate enough to graduate with honors from St Paul High School. I am very grateful that I have always been close to such a loving family, whom I hold dear to my heart. I have seen my parent’s struggle to support us and I know that I’m the person I am today because of them.
One of my greatest accomplishments, besides pledging Lambda Theta Alpha, was attending a State University straight out of high school. My family had heard of so many people dropping out because school was too hard or because they didn’t know anyone, however I insisted on attending the university and have been able to maintain my grades. I am currently a junior at California State University, Long Beach majoring in Psychology and Physical Therapy. I plan on having my B.A. in Psychology and using it to do some type of youth counseling, while working on my masters degree for physical therapy.
I pledged for Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. in the spring of 2001, myself and four other beautiful ladies became Line 4. I decided to pledge Lambda Theta Alpha for a variety of reasons. First of all, I wanted to become more involved with the school and meet more people, but because I commute to school, on a daily basis, this is often very difficult. When I found out that Lambda Theta Alpha was not only an academic sorority but also focused on community service and social aspects, I felt that this would be a great way to gain support from other ladies who have the same type of background and who are dealing with the same kinds of issues as myself.
Even though I already have a sister, our relationship is rocky at times, and I wanted to experience the bond of “Sisterhood”. Joining Lambda Theta Alpha has been one of the greatest experiences in my life, every sister that I have had the pleasure of coming in contact with has taught me something either about myself or about dealing with other people, in fact many of them have become my most valued friends. No matter what my sisters have always been there for me, even in some of the hardest times in my life, I thank God everyday for them and I love each and every one of them!!! I always say that “Everything in life happens for a reason”, therefore I know that there is a purpose for Lambda Theta Alpha being a part of my life.
