CSULB Budget cuts affected the
funding for the Chicano & Latino Graduation ceremony in 2004.
Many Latino student organizations at CSULB, including Lambda Theta Alpha,
came together to raise money for this event to continue. During the
school year sisters Monica Lira, Mireya Hernandez and Vanessa Alcantar
were part of the committee that planned and fundraise for this event. With
the hard work and determination, the committee raised enough money to keep
the tradition alive. What makes this ceremony different from the
traditional graduation is that it gives graduates the opportunity to give
thanks to those that have helped them reach their graduation and is also
bilingual. Non-graduating sisters volunteered as ushers at the
Chicano/Latino graduation ceremony. |
