To the World,
I promise temperance and insight and courage,
To crusade for justice,
To seek the truth and defend it always,
To those whom my life may touch in slight measure,
May I give graciously of what is mine.
To my friends,
Understanding and appreciation,
To those closer ones,
Love that is ever steadfast,
To my mind, growth,
To myself, faith,
That I may walk truly in the light of the flame.
The first year women were accepted to Miami University, six women decided to take a leap into the unknown and form a sorority, Delta Zeta. It was no surprise that the three fraternities on campus unanimously had no problem with the idea, but it was the administration and other students that did not sit back and let the newly developing Greek System easily fall into place.
After many obstacles, Delta Zeta was established at Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio. The principal of the school aided this newly founded sorority in preparing rituals, a badge, and colors, all which still remain today as they were in 1902. The sorority joined Panhellenic Conference in 1910.
First of all, what does philanthropy mean? Philanthropy is the act of donating money, time, effort, or support to some kind of beneficial cause, with a defined objective. In other words, philanthropy is our way of bettering the lives of others through specific events and fundraisers.
Delta Zeta just recently partnered with The Painted Turtle camp. This camp gives children with disabilities and life altering diseases a chance to experience life as a normal child at a summer camp that fits their needs. We are excited to see our relationship with The Painted Turtle camp grow.
Our two biggest fundraisers to raise money for our philanthropy are Turtle bowl and Pancake breakfast. In addition to these two events, we use other various fundraisers to raise money.
Turtle Bowl: A jam-packed, exciting football tournament Delta Zeta puts on in the fall. All of the entry fees and money raised from shirts is directed towards philanthropic causes.
Pancake breakfast: All of our girls coordinate a breakfast in the spring that family, friends, and Greeks are invited to. The proceeds also go toward Delta Zeta’s philanthropy.
Delta Zeta is proud to support other Fraternity and Sorority philanthropies throughout the year. After all, we are all trying to benefit non-profit organizations, no matter what the cause.
