We assist JC member, who can speak and understand Japanese, in obtaining soft skills and knowledge to succeed not only in their job-hunting process but also to expose themselves to their own career goals. Besides, as JC mission statement, we support students academic achievement. Under the club primary purpose; to network with peers, alumni, and professionals, Career Development activities enable us to achieve this goal.
Japan Club assists JC's member who is interested in working in Japan or Japanese company. We do provide not only techniques for Japanese-style job hunting, but we also learn how to get a job in the U.S. TOGETHER. In addition to vocational counseling, we provide academic counseling at the time of class registration.
Resume Workshops
A resume is an opportunity for you to present your backgrounds and qualifications in the best way. Your resume is the statement of yourself. Many students think that writing resume is easy and it takes less than an hour. However, it takes lots of efforts to write a good effective resume. In these workshops, you will learn what an effective resume looks like, and after the workshops, you will know how to make your resume better.
Japanese-style mock interview (Both Japanese and English)
Nobody can be a great interviewee without practice. In order to give a good impression of you to interviewers, you need lots of practices and preparation. In the mock interview, you meet 2-3 experienced interviewers from various career backgrounds, and you would be asked about various kinds of questions. Therefore, self-analysis in advance is strongly recommended before this interview.
Major counseling
To schedule classes is important for all students. Also, it is essential for an academic success to find well-organized classes. We will survey a class evaluation and discuss this data at the time of registration. Most counselors are senior standing students in various majors. Therefore, this is a good opportunities for new students to find peers in the same major.
1.In resume and interview workshops
We will invite former and current Japan Club members, who actually got job offers, as guest speakers, and they will discuss how to prepare for interviewing and resume writing, and tell you useful tips and techniques.
2.Job hunting in Japan
Recruit Co, .Ltd will hold a career seminar for students who are interested in Japanese company and willing to work in Japan. The company organizes a helpful web-site about job hunting in Japan. The company will talk about recruiting process in Japan.
3.Job hunting in the U.S.
Guest speakers (to be announced) will talk about job-hunting in the US. The topics will be recruiting procedures in the US, how to prepare for the interview, what types of people the US companies are looking for, VISA issue, etc.
4.Boston Career Forum
Officers who actually participated in Boston Career Forum will talk about the recruiting procedure. The topics will be how to prepare for Boston Career Fair, interviewing and resume writing techniques, etc.
The CSULB Career Development Center (CDC) provide a continuum of programs and activities for preparing and assisting students in their transition from the University to professional careers and the lifelong learning it requires.

CIE provides international, F1 or J1 visa, students the information regarding Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT). CIE will hold workshops several times per semester. Please sign-up at the front counter in the CIE office.
If you need help filling out your application, or if you want to submit your application for OPT/CPT, SMALL GROUP SESSIONS will be held in the Conference Room of the CIE office. (You do NOT need to sign up for the small group sessions).
