Insurance For International Students permits them to protect themselves from huge medical bills at the event of emergency or illnesses during their studies overseas. These insurance plans offer comprehensive healthcare benefits while students are enrolled at CSULB. Because the medical cost in the US is very expensive and difficult for most students to afford, all schools demand that international students purchase adequate medical insurance coverage. In addition, individuals without medical insurance will have great difficulty receiving prompt medical attention.
CSULB Mandatory Health Insurance requirement effective from FALL 2009 enrollment:
- All F-1 and J-1 visa status student will be required to purchase the CSULB approved health insurance policy. The CSULB approved health insurance policy is a CSU group policy offered through Wells Fargo Student Insurance and administered through Anthem Blue Cross. Please remember that you will not be able to register for classes until you have purchased this insurance.
- Alternative health insurance policies will not be accepted. Only students fully sponsored by particular foreign governments may meet certain criteria to be exempted from this requirement.
- To keep insurance costs as low as possible for as many students as possible, the fees for the required CSULB health insurance plan depend on the age of the student. These “age-bands” have been increased from 3 age groups to 5.

Purchasing Health Insurance
- You can purchase the insurance online via www.csuhealthlink.com using credit card. CIE office automatically receives an email notification from the insurance company confirming your enrollment in the plan. CIE will remove your registration hold within 3 business days in most cases.
- You can purchase the insurance using money order at CSULB Wells Fargo Bank Branch, located on the main floor of the University Student Union (USU).Submit the receipt in CIE office, CIE will remove your registration hold within 3 business days.
