Q. What is the weight allowance that I can get along to come to USA? Weight allowed during your travel depends on the airways you choose. Please check Airline Company baggage policies, you are flying with. Few of the airline companies give extra luggage to the students travelling first time. The baggage policy changes from one airline to other.
Example: Checked Baggage allowance in Air India for USA/CANADA:
First Class and Executive Class:
- Free Baggage Allowance: 2 pieces.
- The sum of the 3 dimensions (length + breadth + height) must not exceed 62 inches or 158 centimeters for each piece.
- The maximum weight permissible for a single piece of baggage is 32 kgs or 70 pounds.
Economy Class:
- Free Baggage Allowance: 2 pieces
- The sum of the 3 dimensions (length + breadth + height) of both must not exceed 107 inches. Moreover the linear dimension of each piece should not exceed 62 inches.
- The weight of each bag must not exceed 50 pounds or 23 Kilos.
Check the baggage policies of airlines you are travelling with, for allowed(free) baggage.

Q. What kind of medications should I get before and after coming to Long Beach? As the medication is really expensive here, bring some common medicines for cough, cold, fever etc. It is always better to carry a prescription for all the medicines you carry. You can carry pain relief balms and inhalers without any prescription. If you have any known problem , carry required medication.

Q. What should I bring from INDIA? Here at CSULB most of the professors give their own notes. Usually people follow that material for that course. You can bring some basic books in the field, in which you are planning to specialize.

Q. Describe about the expenses and money to be carried in USA?
The expenses include school fee, monthly expenses, insurance, extra courses etc.
It is highly recommended that you carry a minimum of $500 in cash with sufficient change, as you have to pay for initial expenses for shuttle etc. It is better to carry few quarters, as you may need to call the volunteer from the airport. For more information on Expenses

Q. Are On-campus jobs available and how many hours can we work? On campus are pretty difficult to get once you come here. Usually when classes are in schedule we are not supposed work for more than 20 hours. We can work for 40 hours in the vacations. It is required that you should be at the right time at the right place. Minimum wage of California is $8.00 per hour. These jobs typically take care of your house rent and living expenses if used judiciously.

The Daily 49er (CSULB newsletter) where you can check for any openings. The Career Development Center is a genuine place to try finding job listings. You can also approach the departments and professors directly and ask them if they have any jobs. The key is to research, ask! Ask any and every one. Everyone who really tries to get a job gets one.

Q. What is a good time to arrive at CSULB? You can arrive as much as one month before the official start date of college. Arriving early will help you to find an apartment quickly. Arriving 25 days before the start date is a reasonable time.

Q. We are a group of new students coming to CSULB. Can you reserve an apartment for us? Apartment-search is a pretty tedious task, and is not possible for us to do it for everyone. Temporary Accommodation can be arranged for everybody. It is free of charge service and provided by the seniors to the newcomers to make their stay comfortable during the first few days. The newcomers will be guided during the process of finding a roommate and permanent accommodation.

Q. I am new to US. Can you come to pick-us up at the airport? Airport Pickup can be offered if a newcomer fills the student arrival questionnaire and sends it to us on time(atleast one week).

Q. How do we reach CSULB from the airport? If you fill in the student arrival questionnaire and send it to us much ahead of your arrival, we will come to pick you at the airport. If you don’t want a airport pick-up or if we miss your pick-up you can use various modes of ground transportation available at the airports.
