The Tau Beta Pi Initiation Ceremony
is coming up this Saturday, starting at 9:30AM! There will be a banquet after the proceedings
at Macaroni Grill in Seal Beach.
There are at least two social events being planned by TBP Initiates. We will keep you posted
on last minute events such as a bowling night and a movie night.

There was a reasonable turnout for CSULB E-Day
and Kaleidoscope. Way to go TBP. Matt was a good choice for contact person. The
Tau Beta Pi Initiation Ceremony

David Thomas will lend his expertise to a
TBP Personal Bent Polish Seminar. David has ground his own lenses for his telescope.

The assignments for CSULB E-Day and Kaleidoscope
on Sat., April 26th from 9am - 5pm have been emailed. This is a mandatory event for all
eligibles seeking entry into Tau Beta Pi and for all Tau Beta Pi CA Theta elected
officers. Eligibles will receive 20 points for participation in this event.
Eligibles with a valid excuse must email me
prior to the event. The College of Engineering specifically requested Tau Beta Pi
involvement in this event. They will need as many as we can muster. 3 early birds
will be needed by Mike Berg at 8:30am to set up signs directing guests from parking to
the event areas. Matt Florida will be our coordinator on this project located at The
College of Engineering Welcome table in he VEC Quad area. The College of Engineering will
be asking Matt for volunteers as needed. A minimum of 10 people will be needed starting at
9am. An additional 3 people minimum will be needed for various functions. Check your
emails and Beachboard for more information.

There will be two additional Big Bent Polish
events next week: Wed. April 23 from 12PM - 12:50PM and Thu. April 24 from
12PM - 1PM. Briza will need to leave the Wed. event by 12:50PM at the latest.
The SWE Beach Bonfire event is
coming up! Keep the date open, Tuesday, April 22, 6:30PM to 10:00PM.
TBP Initiate Paul McKenzie has organized a guest
speaker event. This is a great way to get points on your points sheet while
attending what sounds like a very interesting meeting.

MESA Regional Finals for middle school on Sat
April 5th. Meeting on Friday, April 4 at 1 pm in the MESA lab. Pay $50.00
per student

16 Conference is still in need of a driver.

Tau Beta Pi members are encouraged to join in on our group
order of Tau Beta Pi stoles and
honor cords for graduation ceremonies so that
we can get a discount. More information on individual orders can be found at the
TBP National Website.
Update: The AIAA Airplane contest was a success. The contest winners will be posted when
email problems allow the webmaster to contac AIAA for the official winners. In the
meantime, congratulations to Chris Kien (who needs directions to the AIAA office to pick up
the prize) for the winning flight!

A number of Tau Beta Pi eligibles and members were noticed while providing
volunteer help at The College of Engineering Open House on March 22. Way to
go!
The Tau Beta Pi District 16 Convention
on April 5 carpool needs more participants. This event is good for eligibles to
meet with Tau Beta Pi members.
The AIAA Airplane contest was a success. The contest winners will be posted when
email problems allow the webmaster to contac AIAA for the official winners. In the
meantime, congratulations to Chris for the winning flight!

The Engineering Study Initiative (Homework Club) has been inactivated. Eligibles
should choose another project, such as the College of Engineering Open House (see
below). The Tau Beta Pi District 16 Convention
on April 5 carpool is still being formed.
The College of Engineering Open House on March 22 still needs volunteers. See

TBP eligibles should consider this event as a project. Please note that there is

The AIAA: Airplane Fly-Off project has been updated. Interested students should
check the events page for the latest
details. Recruit students to construct an airplane entirely out of an 8.5 X 11
inch piece of paper using only 1'' tape and 1 paperclip; the paper cannot be
cut/altered during construction. Students will construct the
airplane at the time of competition. Every student competing gets 3 chances to
fly his/her plane. Winners will be judged based on accuracy of reaching on/near
target, and duration of flight (take the best score of the 3
fly-offs). Activity will occur during the AIAA general meeting on Wed., March 12
between 12:15 and 2 pm at the VEC Quad. There will be 3 winners, and monetary
prizes/gift certificates will be given from our AIAA Fund, i.e. [1st ($75),
2nd ($50), and 3rd ($25)]. This is an open project. It is open to students of ALL
majors. Tell your CSULB student friends. Updated information on the IEEE
Teacher-In-Service Program is available on
the events page.

MESA project is full. Eligibles seeking a project must select a different
project. A new orientation session for MESA has been added on
Friday, February 29, 2008 at 3-5PM.
New projects for eligibles and new participants have been added to the Events
page. AIAA: Airplane Fly-Off. Recruit students to construct an airplane

IEEE Teacher-In-Service Program brings TBP and other engineering students to grade
school teachers to prepare the teachers to present Math and Egineering concepts to
young students. This project differs from the Engineering HW Club project in the
target audience and level of content. Both are ideal for those who enjoy helping
others understand those difficult concepts that once were a challenge to assimilate.
IEEE Club Job Fair Seminar (2/27/2008 at 5pm in VEC-112 and the Engineering, Science,
and Technology Job Fair (2/28/2008 at the Student Union.

The date for the initiation ceremony for Tau Beta Pi eligibles who have earned enough points
and are seeking membership is now set for May 3, 2008, at CSULB, room and times TBA.

New initiates can pick up your bents at engineering futures on 9/23. Make sure you
bring $5 if you want one to call your own. Make sure you also print out the
Check Off Sheet (pdf) and bring it to the events on the list to get it signed.
9/1/06:
There will be two TBP Orientation meetings held next week. One will be on Wednesday
September 6th at 12:00pm (noon), and the other will be on Thursday September 7th at
7:00pm. The location is still to be determined but should be posted soon. If you are
interested in joining, please bring $5 in order to receive a personal Brass Bent which
must be polished as part of the
requirements for joining.
The orientation meeting will cover all of the procedures for new candidates who are
interested in joining the Tau Beta Pi honor society. Come hungry because there will
be pizza provided on a first come, first serve basis.
5/2/06:
The time has come for all you initiates. The day for which all your hard work pays off, the
Tau Beta Pi Spring 2006 Initiation Ceremony! The ceremony will be this Saturday, May 6 at
3pm. We shall meet in the VEC quad (in front of the TBP bent). For more details about Initiation,
visit the events page.
To those initiates that were not able to make it to the bent polish on April 19, you
must meet at the big bent in front of VEC at 1pm to polish it.
The celebration banquet will be held at El Torito on PCH (close to campus) after the
ceremony from 6pm-9:30pm. If you wish to bring guests, please notify Jason ASAP to reserve
seating and bring $25/guest.
We will also be holding officer elections during the initiation ceremony. So think about it.
This is an opportunity for you to take leadership in TBP and make it even better!
4/20/06:
We are looking for volunteers to help out in the planning and to participate in the upcoming
Kaleidoscope event at CSULB on Saturday, April 29. This will count for 30 points and we
are still in need of about five people.
If you are interested in helping out with Kaleidoscope, contact your fellow electee Gary
Lipczynski for more information. He's in charge of planning. You can e-mail him at
glipczynski@yahoo.com.

The second Engineering Futures seminar will be held on Saturday, April 22 from 10AM-2PM in
HHS1-200 (same room as first EF session). A detailed EF page has been created.

The BIG BENT polish is this Wednesday, April 19 from 11AM-1PM at the TBP Bent in front of
the VEC quad. This is a mandatory event for Spring 2006 initiates.
The individual bents will be distributed to initiates during the Big Bent polish.
Graduation stoles and cords will also be passed out to graduating seniors.

A map and contact number has been added to the Tau Beta Pi Social page. TBP will be meeting at
Huntington State Beach: on PCH, between Magnolia and Brookhurst
(South of Magnolia / North of Brookhurst).

Beta Pi Social at Huntington State Beach. All TBP members and initiates are invited
