ORCA Tour, CSULB Library


I've been working with Hema Ramachandran, CSULB's engineering librarian, to set up a back-stage tour of the library's robotic book storage system (known as ORCA). This is not something available to the general public, and is a very rare opportunity for us.

The event will begin Friday, 10/23/09, at 10:00am. Hema will give us a presentation on the services she and the library offer to engineering students, and then we will split into two groups for the ORCA tour. The event should be concluded around lunchtime.

There is a strict limit of 30 people on this tour, and there are 26 places open as I write this email. If you are interested in attending, please email me at orcatour@lojeck.com. I'll notify the first 26 people that they are "on the list", and will tell them when and where to meet me. I will be checking the guest list at the door of the event, and to be fair to everyone, I'll only accept RSVP's by the email address above, not in person.

If the guest list isn't full by early Wednesday, I'll open this invitation to IEEE and EAT's general membership, so please respond quickly.

Requirements for Eta Kappa Nu Membership:
  1. Induction Fee
    1. $60.00
    2. Payable in cash or check (Make checks out to: ASI. Please write on the memo line "ETA KAPPA NU")
    3. One-Time payment, There are no yearly dues
    4. Covers National Org membership, meal at induction ceremony, and a small amount to finance the local chapter
    5. Fees due by October 30, 2009. The best time to pay is at your interview with our officers.
  2. Leadership Academy
    1. Inductees are required to sign up for the CSULB Leadership Academy, and to enroll in one class
    2. The Leadership Academy is a free program that provides lessons in business-related matters, such as how to deal with difficult people, how to run a business meeting, meeting etiquette, etc...
    3. Members can enroll and find more information at the Leadership Academy Website: http://www.csulb.edu/LeadershipAcademy
    4. Graduates of the Leadership Academy receive special honors at graduation, and this is a good way to polish your resume'
  3. Resume'
    1. Members must have a resume', and should have a few copies on hand at all times
    2. For help constructing a resume, visit the Eta Kappa Nu office, or the Career Development Center in Brotmann Hall rm:250 for free professional assistance
  4. Meet Everett
    1. Everett would like to meet each of you in person, briefly.
  5. Interview With An Officer
    1. Officers' office hours will be posted on the website shortly
    2. Eligibles may make appointments, or walk-in
    3. Interviews are casual, low-pressure, and merely serve to let us meet potential applicants
    4. This is not a job interview, and we will not try to "get" you
    5. Eligibles must bring copy of resume, and printout of emails showing Leadership Academy enrollments
    6. Eligibles must also bring copy of sign-off sheet, which will be posted to HKN website shortly.
