About DSP
Purpose

Delta Sigma Pi is a professional fraternity organized to foster the study of business in universities; to encourage scholarship, social activity and the association of students for their mutual advancement by research and practice; to promote closer affiliation between the commercial world and students of commerce, and to further a higher standard of commercial ethics and culture and the civic and commercial welfare of the community.

Mission
Historic Diversity
For more than 95 years, Delta Sigma Pi has encouraged, supported, and shaped the professional goals and personal aspirations of thousands of members. It is quite simply the foremost professional fraternity for men and women pursuing business careers.

Devoted to promoting competency and achievement within the field of business, Delta Sigma Pi also facilitates social activity among students, the community, and business organizations.

Our purposeful philosophy encompasses all religious and cultural affiliations, includes both men and women, and reaches from coast to coast with over 300 collegiate and alumni chapters and over 205,000 members.

Professional Evolution

Progressing from student to young professional to seasoned business performer, members of Delta Sigma Pi grow far beyond classroom theory through real-life managerial and leadership experience. Sharing each others' goals, reinforcing common values, and the pursuit of professional excellence as a team builds a bond of friendship - "not just four years…for life."

Community Involvement
Believing that business has both a unique opportunity and a compelling duty to contribute to the larger community, Delta Sigma Pi is dedicated to making a difference. Frequent community involvement instills deep feelings of brotherhood while developing business skills.

Every year, wide-ranging activities involve members in project selection, strategic planning, budget development, promotion, and project implementation. Measurable results provide students with reality-based lessons and valuable business insights from which both student and community can benefit.

Lifetime Opportunity
Hard work, shared experience, and social interaction contribute to friendships which transcend the collegiate career. The network of Delta Sigma Pi members coast-to-coast provides a wealth of business resources, professional contacts, continuing education, and community support to even the newest business graduate. Dynamic alumni groups flourish nationwide.

Embracing professional and personal development as well as community involvement, Delta Sigma Pi chapters continue to influence and uplift their local communities.

Developing Leaders
Opportunities to experience leadership firsthand abound in Delta Sigma Pi. Chapter officers and committee chairs gain management, budgeting and supervisory skills on a daily basis.

Fraternity and Leadership Foundation programming includes numerous opportunities to learn, grow and develop personal skills. A national convention, regional conferences, career fairs, regional leadership schools and a biennial Leadership Academy for top students offer educational, motivational, career and personal development sessions. Led by respected business leaders, educators and notable alumni, these events allow business executives to interact with student leaders, future employees and customers.

"Delta Sigma Pi provides opportunities for you to maximize your potential."

Academic Achievement
Demonstrating continuing commitment to progress, growth, and excellence, Delta Sigma Pi funds many educational programs through the Delta Sigma Pi Leadership Foundation, a 501c(3) charitable organization formed to support educational, leadership and scholastic endeavors. It extends financial assistance for scholarships, leadership development and training, and personal and professional improvement of the Fraternity and its members. Funded by individual and corporate contributions, the Leadership Foundation offers many levels of participation for students, alumni, friends and corporate sponsors.

Delta Sigma Pi was founded by Alexander Frank Makay, Henry Albert Tienken, Harold Valentine Jacobs, and Alfred Moysello. The four members founded the organization in 1907 at New York University. In 1911, the fraternity published its first newsletter, which soon would be named The Deltasig. The Delta Sigma Pi Scholarship key was created in 1912 and is now awarded to the graduating senior (whether or not a Deltasig) with the highest cumulative GPA at any college or university that hosts a chapter of Delta Sigma Pi.

Soon after the second chapter was founded at Northwestern School of Commerce. National meetings became a regular tradition and to this day the national fraternity meets every other year to conduct business and elect its national leaders. After rapid expansion in the early 1920s, the fraternity opened its national headquarters in Chicago, Illinois. In 1957, the central office moved to Oxford, Ohio, adjacent to the campus of Miami University. The biggest change in the history of the fraternity took place in 1975, as the Board of Directors mandated that chapters were allowed to initiate female business students, to conform with Title IX. Initially this move was very unpopular among many members, but today many chapters have female officers.

The Central Office

The national administrative headquarters of Delta Sigma Pi is the Central Office. It was established in Chicago, Illinois, in 1924 where it remained until the fall of 1956 when it was moved to 330 South Campus Avenue in Oxford, Ohio (near Cincinnati) and its own building. The Executive Director is in charge of the Central Office and has a full-time staff, including a Director of Finance and Administration, Director of Chapter and Expansion Services, Executive Vice President of the Leadership Foundation, Director of Education and Communications, Director of Information Services, Assistant Director of Communications, Membership Services Coordinator, Educational and Leadership Consultants and administrative personnel.

An ever-increasing computer network is employed to expedite the routine of the Central Office and the handling of thousands of inquiries responded to annually. The Fraternity database contains information for every member initiated, as well as historical data and records. The library of the Central Office contains files on schools of business administration in the United States, copies of all issues of The DELTASIG and bound membership records for every member of Delta Sigma Pi from the very founding of the Fraternity in 1907.

Over one hundred different items of jewelry, chapter supplies, forms and manuals are stocked by the Central Office for the use of collegiate and alumni chapters and individual members. The DELTASIG, official bulletins, all manuals and other Fraternity publications are edited and distributed by the Central Office.

The Central Office is geographically located in the heart of the Fraternity's activities. The headquarters building is adjacent to the Miami University campus which affords a true college atmosphere and a perfect environment for the national operation.
