University Ombuds

We Serve the Campus Community

The Office of University Ombuds is an independent, neutral resource for informal problem-solving. The Office serves all members of the campus community - students, alumni/ae, faculty, staff, administrators, emeriti/ae and retirees. People from the larger community may also bring campus-related problems to the attention of the Ombuds for discussion and resolution.

The original term "ombudsman" is a Swedish term and means "one who investigates complaints, reports findings and achieves equitable settlements." Today, the "ombudsman" is also referred to as an ombudsperson or an ombuds. There are government ombuds and organizational ombuds. Government ombuds investigate and write formal reports; organizational ombuds are informal problem-solvers.
