Cole Conservatory Scholar of the Month:
February 2012

Nancy Gray, flute

Flutist Nancy Gray, from Visalia, California, is a second year graduate student at the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music. Nancy's desire to play the flute began after seeing a full orchestra on television. At the time, she was only eight years old but enterprising enough to notice that there were only three flute positions in juxtaposition to the numerous violin chairs.

In 2010 she received her Bachelors of Music in Flute Performance at California State University, Northridge. While at CSUN she was the principal flutist of the Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. She has won awards such as the Tulare County Concerto Competition, CSUN Lower Division Concerto Competition, CSUN Outstanding Musician Award and was a featured soloist with the Silver Winds Choir.

Nancy was awarded the Cole Scholarship in Fall 2010, and is pursuing a Masters of Music in Flute Performance under Dr. John Barcellona. She is a member of the University Symphony Orchestra and University Wind Quintet, and performs and teaches privately throughout Los Angeles.

Nancy studied with renowned flutists Tracy Harris and David Shostac.

Congraulations to Nancy, our February 2012 Cole Scholar of the Month!
