Joshua Vigran, piano

Senior and pianist, Joshua Vigran, is our featured Cole Conservatory Scholar for September 2011. In an interview with him last week he shared with us his passion for music and a little bit of his history:

At age seven, Joshua began piano and guitar lessons for approximately six months. The lessons became unaffordable but he continued his pursuits; piano and classical guitar became his hobbies. By the age of 10 Joshua was "adamant" the he wanted to be a "musician" when he grew up. His parents were from musical families and were very supportive.

During middle school Joshua led several worship teams for his church and while at Lancaster High School he played in the drumline. Since he was 15, he has taught private and group lessons in piano, bass, drums, and guitar.

During his junior year, Joshua witnessed Dr. Shun-Lin Chou perform Prokofiev's 3rd Piano Concerto at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center. He was moved by the performance and went to the BCCM website to find out more about the program. Since his arrival in 2008 he has received the Cole Scholarship each semester. He also received the John Shaak Keyboard Scholarship in 2010-2011 and the Daniel Cariaga Keyboard Scholarship in 2009-2010.

Joshua has been an avid accompanist for the Cole Conservatory, assisting in competitions, recitals, and student juries. He also teaches at a studio in Bellflower and assists with the music in a local church.

He currently studies piano with Dr. Valentina Gottlieb. In Spring 2012 he will attend the Aaron Copland School of Music, Queen's College, New York and study with Dr. Nina Lelchuck.
