Former Congressman Kuykendall Donates Archives to LibraryPublished: December 1, 2009
Former United States Congressman Steven T. Kuykendall has donated a collection of his political archival materials to the CSULB University Library.
Kuykendall served in the House of Representatives from California’s 36th Congressional District from 1999-2001. He previously was a member of the California State Assembly between 1994-98 and served on the Rancho Palos Verdes City Council from 1991-94, where he was mayor in 1994.
His archive spans his career in each realm of public service and includes campaign materials, background documents and other memorabilia that supplement his public record. Kuykendall said the material provides students and faculty with an understanding of the behind-the-scenes processes of government and “a small flavor of what it was like to serve in public office.”
CSULB is part of the state’s 54th Assembly District, where Kuykendall served. “This is a wonderful opportunity for any library,” said CSULB President F. King Alexander, who called Kuykendall “an ally of everything that we do.”
An Oct. 30 reception in the University Library lobby honored Kuykendall for his donation.
