In Memoriam

Paul Frantz, Associate Professor of International Business/Law and Co-Director of the International Business Program, passed away Saturday, March 5, at the City of Hope Hospital in Duarte. He would have been 50 years old in September.

Frantz came to CSULB in the spring semester of 1995 as a full-time lecturer and continued in that position until he was appointed to a tenure track position in the Department of Finance, Real Estate and Law in 2000. He had a J. D. degree from the University of Montana, a masters in international management from Thunderbird University, and a LL.M. degree from McGeorge University.

“He was devoted to his specialty area of international business law and was an excellent classroom teacher who genuinely liked and enjoyed his students,” said Barbara Crutchfield George, professor of Finance, Real Estate and Law. “He was proud of his co-authorship of an international business text and has two journal articles that will be published posthumously. Paul's death is a great loss to me of a very special friend and colleague.”

At his request, Frantz will be buried in his hometown of Bozeman, Mont., but there will be a memorial service for him on Friday, March 11, at 3 p.m. at the Bay Shore Community Church located at 5100 The Toledo in Long Beach.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the PAUL L. FRANTZ INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP FUND. Checks should be made payable to the CSULB Foundation, with a notation indicating ‘Frantz Scholarship fund.' Donations should be sent to CSULB Foundation, attention Mary Ann Messing, 6300 State University Dr., Long Beach, Calif. 90815.
