Experts versed in koi fish, bonsai and orchids will present three workshops during a Japanese horticulture symposium on Sunday, March 13, at CSULB's Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden.
Workshops on koi and koi ponds and bonsai take place from 9-11:30 a.m. and the orchid workshop will be held from 1-3:30 p.m.
A free public orchid exhibit and sale takes place from noon to 4 p.m. in the Japanese Garden courtyard. Workshops are $50 each for the public and $40 for Friends of the Japanese Garden members and include a continental breakfast or afternoon snack.
Garden curator Vergil Hettick will provide information regarding pond construction and maintenance, as well as koi care and disease control. An introductory Zen Nippon Airinkai Koi Club membership and booklet are included.
A team of Japanese experts from the Gardena Bonsai Club will show how to create and care for bonsai in this hands-on class. The cost includes a plant, pot and instruction booklet.
Members of the Gardena Cymbidium Club will teach the general care and repotting techniques of orchids. Workshop attendees will receive an orchid plant, pot and instruction booklet.Preregistration is required to attend a workshop.
